This is one of the best parks for kids. There are three play structures for various age groups, two infant swings and two regular swings, small sand box, four party areas (three are covered), a basketball court, a baseball field and the main attraction is a pond and bridge to an island. The island has its own separate (fifth) party area, three covered play structures (two that are connected via two walkways for kids), a climbing net, and a separate covered slide. There are spiral stairs next to the covered slide but it's been blocked off recently. Also, the walkway has been blocked off recently and looks like it's dented and a hazard. The island is closed on Tuesday mornings for maintenance and is closed periodically if it rains.
Because it's so popular, it gets very crowded on the weekends, especially because of large wedding and other parties taking pictures on the island. It's beautiful, so I understand it's popularity but I really wish the photograph parties were managed a little better. It makes the parking lot and island crazy on the weekends. This is the only reason I gave four instead of five stars.
The office building also houses another covered party area and a pre-school. There are a few picnic tables around the park.
There's a sidewalk that outlines the park. Great for walkers but I rarely see joggers. There are two restroom facilities - one stand alone and one in the same building as the office. Staff regularly make rounds and are always friendly and helpful. We've had several events at this park and never had any problems. You must be a resident to reserve party areas and there are regulations that are strictly enforced.
There are two parking lots but the one in the back is small and can be difficult for non-residents to find.
There are ducks, geese and turtles. There are several signs that prohibit the feeding of the animals. People do walk their dogs but owners must be prepared to clean up after them.
Hopefully, I have all my information correct. Check the website for more. Overall, a...
Read moreA great meeting and melding place with a slice of Americana Art! I enjoy stopping by here along the way from work, as this place is good for bringing prepared food to eat at one of the many picnic tables, doing a quick stretch and workout and to meet friends for a game of field sports or basketball. Team sports will often involve incoming groups and fans as well. The park can accommodate organizations, family and company picnics, the likes of whom may also utilize the park for all there is to offer! There’s a front office with attached restrooms and a larger restroom on the backside, near Arabella Street. The Americana Art is unique to see in any city park, tho here the replica buildings and deck areas double as offering small gathering spots and of the play island, playhouse features! The usual park playgrounds are also available outside the pond. Turtles and waterfowl can be seen all around the pond, by the island. I had to watch my step along the way! There’s covered bridge crossings, waterfalls and a little ship, where imaginations run wild, without ever leaving the port! The landscape with its features makes an excellent backdrop for photos. Whether to top off a get-together, or for special occasion photography, the choice of convenient locations could hardly be better! The parking lot is available for a sizable presence, with an additional lot and street-side parking along Arabella Street. My only negative here is the lack of natural shade tree cover away from the main parking lot. Then again, that could benefit the picture taking, with the tradeoff of more even brightness to capture the people, and with the created island and pond, fulfilling my need for naturalness, in a...
Read moreToday my friend (both of us 17 years old) and I decided to visit the park for the first time to do homework and have a picnic because of how appealing and safe it looked. Suddenly a young teenage girl approached us on a skateboard, she quickly asked us if we lived around here and we said no, and she then explains that her cousin had been shot in the same park. We figured she just wanted to warn us, but boy were we wrong. She said that she seeked revenge and wanted the people at the park to pay she pulled out a gun to our faces and immediately our hearts dropped and we feared for our lives, she asked us to give up our phones and asked what carrier we had. Once we told her what carriers we had she asked for money instead but we didn't have any on us. After that she asked what kind of backpack my friend had and to empty it out, but all that came out was homework so obviously she didn't want that but asked to give her the backpack that was just worth $50. Once we handed her the backpack, she walked away and said "you guys were cool about this, and this NEVER happened." It was a Saturday morning (10 am) and the surroundings were filled with kids and adults, the last thing we expected was to be robbed at gun point. It's a shame that i had such a horrific and traumatizing experience, my life had never been threatened before. My friend and i immediately left and we will never come back, please be careful and cautious if you see a teenage girl approaching you on a skateboard. Crazy that this happened to us in an area that is...
