A "Hawaiian" restaurant w/o poke? Imagine that!
$10 off purchase of $30 or more coupon
Islands occupies the former space which housed Tapioca Express & another business (Great Steak & Potato, I believe) in front of Edwards Theatre. With coupon in hand, my family & I came here for lunch during the weekend.
Moa Kai (Tuna sandwich, lettuce-wrapped, island slaw as side)- Albacore tuna salad, cheddar & Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles & mayo, lettuce-wrapped per my request. Looking diminutive upon arrival at our table, the Moa Kai did manage to satisfy my appetite afterwards. The albacore tuna salad was creamy, the rest of ingredients tasting crisp & fresh. The island slaw had a solid amount of brightness, but when I tasted the fries that came with my brother's burger, I regretted not getting those, instead. Islands fries had a well done, crunchy exterior surrounding a fluffy interior. Applying a liberal amount of Islands' secret seasoning, and these fries are bonafide!
Service was fine. We didn't wait too long for our food to come out, and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner. A good amount of seating, with a patio overlooking Edwards.
Parking is at the Cerritos Towne Centre, Islands being right of Starbucks.
While not "Hawaiian", in my humble opinion, Islands does enough to satisfy the burger & fries crowd. Without a coupon, I probably would not dine here, save for when my free birthday month chocolate lava cake coupon email arrives in my inbox. I did enjoy my tuna sandwich, but not to the point where I'd rave about it in my review. To each their own, but...
Read moreLet me start off by saying I didn't think this place would be as good as it was, it blew me out of the water. If you want a simple burger and fries, go someplace else, Islands is all about their specialty burgers and their drinks. Waiting was fast, very fast, we only spent 5 minutes waiting for a table on a Sunday evening. Service was fast, and food came out pretty fast too. All of the workers were kind and friendly. The burgers, oh my gosh the burgers.. I ordered the Kilauea, it was one of the best burgers I've had in months. Meat was cooked perfect, and burgers were dressed nicely, its a lot of meat. Fries don't come with the burger, they have to be added on to your order, but I saw why once I ordered, they give you a ginormous serving of fries, so if you order a burger I would get one order of fries for every 2 people. Image attached shows portion sizes The only reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5, is the pricing. Dont come here if you are expecting a cheap meal, it cost over $40 for two people. Just burger fries and drinks. I am glad I finally tried it, definitely will come back to try more food! tl;dr - amazing food and service, but on the...
Read moreMy bf and I choose to come here because it was a restaurant we are familiar with and our daughter has options (since she is a picky eater). Honestly as a server/hostess, for a decade now, there are certain things that bother me. Being treated as if WE, my bf or myself cant pay for our tab and you have these fresh off of high schools girls, sit us at a table in the middle of a bunch of booths, as if they needed to make sure we were going to pay, made ME, made us feel very uncomfortable. I understand we look young, but you cant judge people based off of looks. Whether we/they(customer's will pay or not, tip you out or not) does not mean you should treat us/them in a certain manner. If it wasnt for our server Brett and the bartender who brought us our drinks we probably wouldn't have even ordered. So s/o to Arthur for setting the vibe for tonight.! Thanks you guys!!! Come by Downtown Long Beach. 🙂 Truely appreciate...
