Champaign DMV is an Absolute Nightmare – Rude, Incompetent, and Slow as Hell 🤡
I’ve had to deal with the Champaign DMV for two days in a row , and I genuinely don’t know how this place is still running. The level of incompetence, rudeness, and disorganization is next-level. If you’re thinking of going here—be prepared for a headache. Here’s what happened:
Day 1 – Written Test Disaster I arrived at afternoon to take my written test and get my permit. Should be a straightforward process, right? Nope.
The first employee, an older white woman with glasses, had no idea what she was doing and kept fumbling around for 30 minutes while trying to process my paperwork. I was literally just standing there, watching her struggle with basic DMV procedures. Finally, a younger guy stepped in and handled it. Cool, problem solved? Not really— After finishing my written test, I realized he forgot to return my passport and state ID. And guess what? He wasn’t even there anymore when I finished, so I had to ask other staff to find my missing documents. Instead of acknowledging their mistake, they had the nerve to ask ME to “double-check” as if I lost my own passport. After some digging, they finally found it in a drawer under the desk. Seriously?! How do you just misplace someone’s ID like that? Then there was Vynce (black, bald, wears glasses), who was rude as hell. I was standing around waiting for 40 minutes, so naturally, I checked my phone. Dude straight up punched the desk and yelled at me not to use my phone. Like, excuse me? Maybe if y’all didn’t have people waiting around for no reason, we wouldn’t be on our phones. At this point, I thought that was the worst of it. But then...
Day 2 – Road Test With a “Karen” From Hell I came back the next day for my road test, and things got even worse. The examiner was a white woman named Karen (wears glasses, long hair), and she was the most passive-aggressive, rude, and unfair examiner ever.
Messed with my car’s AC without asking. Like, excuse me? This is MY vehicle. Gave unclear directions—at one point, she told me to turn left, but when I asked for confirmation, she suddenly changed it to right. Then she told me to turn “two streets away” when it was actually the next road. Straight-up lied on my test report. She claimed I was driving only 10 mph when I was actually going above 20 mph the entire time. Told me "I don’t like your attitude" when SHE was the one being rude, short-tempered, and condescending the whole time. I don’t even need to explain why that’s messed up. Showed clear bias. She addressed a white guy before me as "Sir [Last Name]" but when talking to me, she just used my last name...
Read moreWent in to get a Real ID with my husband. Long wait time, I understand... we’re in a pandemic. I didn’t understand why my husband and I, who live together, couldn’t be helped together and had to stand apart, but okay it’s not the end of the world. We checked in at the front after waiting 20-30 minutes and found out we were missing one document. Frustrating, but the lady was kind and allowed us to go home and return without waiting again to enter the building. We live 20 minutes away, but decided we were invested at this point so we drove home and drove back. This time we arrive and entered the building to which we were standing on designated spaces waiting for our number to be called. Again, my husband and I waiting separately 6 feet apart, even though we live together. A woman was designated just for enforcing that we stood apart from each other, like we were being barked at by prison guards. We stood and waited for another hour. Finally, we get to the counter where we both end up having to work together anyway because most of our documentation is shared. We were told we didn’t have correct documentation still. At this point we’ve invested 2 hours of wait time, not including our drive time. We were frustrated, however perfectly calm and just asking questions. We never raised our voice, we never cursed, and were never rude. A supervisor, we believe, storms over screaming at us out of nowhere that we don’t have the right documents and what we have doesn’t count. We just stand there watching her in embarrassment and shock as we’re publicly ridiculed for not having the right paper even after being checked at the check in. I understand that the pandemic has placed a lot of tension and added stress on people of all workplaces, myself included in healthcare. I also understand that the DMV is a hectic and stressful place, as you’re dealing with people of all kinds of backgrounds, payments, and state regulations. However, it’s completely unnecessary, rude, and belittling to scream at patrons when no one has raised their voice. Staff, please learn to control your own attitudes and behaviors, you’re only making yourself look bad. On another note, if anyone is still reading or cares, the DMV In Monticello approximately 25 minutes away has an incredibly kind staff. My husband and I went to them about 6 weeks later, and yes we had a long wait and still abided by COVID guidelines, however we were treated with respect and got...
Read moreOn 2-18-2021 at 8:00 Am in the morning, I went here to get a MVR for my job. I was sent to the cashier at station # 11. The lady behind the counter seemed very annoyed that I was there. I was very cordial to her and understand that we all have bad days. I kept my self up beat and cheerful while she maintained a very frustrated attitude towards my request. At one point I asked her a question about a category on the MVR report , She instantly jumped all over me. Her remarks were extremely condescending and unprofessional. She was very frustrated that I asked the question and made her look at the report. Her immediate reply was, " That is not the report you asked for" I replied that I was not asking for anything different, I still want the report, Just wondering if the Non exempt Intrastate was going to be on the report" She again replied frustratingly that I had asked for the wrong report if I wanted that on there. I said No problem I still want the report. As she grabbed it out of the printer and handed it to me she said in a more frustrating manner, THERE ITS ON THERE! So It seems I did not ask for the wrong report. She threw the piece of paper on the counter as if she was done with me. Did not bother to apologize or admit that she was wrong and I did not ask for the wrong report. Her manager or an older guy was standing behind her the entire time and did not say a thing. I took the report and smiled and said Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it, Do i need to sign for anything? With her back turned to me she replied NO! Now I am sure not everyone here is like this. And this is a government institution so I'm not sure what good it does for me to even leave a rating here. Nothing is going to change. No one will do anything about rude public servants here at the Champaign DMV. No deserves to be...
