I would highly recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time online, they simply scanned the QR code of your device and let you board the ferry. On the ferry you can go inside the main rooms or out onto the decks, at the front of the ferry you can see the ravenel bridge, (The iconic bridge) and to the left there is the aircraft carrier (Yorktown). Also in the harbor you have a chance of seeing dolphins. As your ferry travels across the harbor to fort Sumter, you will pass by Fort/Castle Pickney. One really cool thing that happens at Fort Sumter is if you are the first group that goes you can help raise the flag, a park ranger will be organizing the flag raising along with some state trivia. Overall Fort Sumter is a really cool Fort to go to, I have gone to fort Moultrie as well, both are really cool and I recommend going to see them both as they are very important to the history and foundation...

What an incredibly humbling experience it is to reflect on the past. I can't help but imagine the profound emotions that must have coursed through the hearts of the Union soldiers, standing united against the formidable might of an entire State like South Carolina.

And as the war drew to a close, I'm filled with an overwhelming sense of empathy for the Confederate soldiers. Regardless of their actions over the years, one can only attempt to fathom the complex emotions they carried.

In this moment, it becomes undeniably clear that we, as a society, must transcend the divides of Confederate, Union, Republican, Democrat, and any other label. Urgency envelops us, urging us to come together, to unite, and to truly learn from our shared history.

We need to learn to put God First above all worldly labels because at the closing hour of our life, that’s all that we’re...

We did the fort sumpter tour. Cool tour. I’d not do it again but great to say I’ve done it. ONLY complaint was the tour guide pointing out the white cross on the end of the island that the Sons of the Confederacy own and saying it “stands for absolutely nothing.” Well, there’s a lot of stuff around that stands for nothing. There’s literally thousands of things we’re passing that don’t stand for anything but you felt it necessary to say the cross specifically stands for nothing. Listen, we know there wasn’t a battle fought at that spot. We know that you don’t get to dictate what goes on non-state park property; but the cross does stand for something and regardless of its meaning to you, it’d be appropriate to leave it out of your mouth unless you have a...

This is a nice, but small museum that talks about the history of Fort Sumter and the beginnings of the US Civil War. Many people think of this Visitor's Center as somewhere that has the primary purpose of being a waiting/staging area for the ride to the Island where Fort Sumter is located; however, given its location and proximity to other tourist attractions such as the aquarium, I believe that it easily holds it's own merits as another museum. Even if you don't go out to Fort Sumter, make it a point to stop here to learn a thing or two. It is free after all. 😀
