We'd planned a trip to Charleston last year, but it was cancelled because of Hurricane Matthew. In the category of "every cloud has a silver lining" (and those are serious clouds!), a benefit of this delay is that we didn't go to our originally booked hotel, but chose instead to stay at the gorgeous place! Situated on a quiet residential street lined with eclectic 19th century architecture, the cottage is a short walk to the great sites, restaurants (!!!), and shopping of Charleston. It is immaculate, comfortable, beautifully designed in a modern style, offers great privacy and quiet, and even has a gourmet-level kitchen equipped with excellent cookware and appliances. (We ate simple breakfasts and lunches here in and then had sensational dinners out.) There is a spaciousness to the property that makes it feel quite luxurious for two -- it's also a nice place just to hang out. Anne and Fred went out of their way to make our stay here easier, providing guidance on what to do and where to go, and could not have been nicer. They even put a delicious chocolate cake in the refrigerator for my wife's birthday, and Ann helped us get a reservation at one of the top restaurants in town! Bottom line: we have stayed at several VRBO or AirBNB properties over the years, and this one goes right to the top...
Read moreA rare jewel was discovered during our recent visit to Charleston, SC residing in the Sarah Clifford Guest House & Cottage. We chose to stay the week in the 2 story cottage, beautifully appointed with all the modern amenities and comforts, privately recessed off the street in a quaint, quiet residential neighborhood. Near King street in the downtown area, the cottage is within walking distance to numerous fine & casual restaurants as well as many historic points of interest. It is also concentrically located just north of the French Quarter bustling market with more choices in dining, shopping, & historic tours. Our hosts, Ann & Fred Willis, were gracious and helpful providing us with essential information, prior to arriving, regarding all aspects of exploring this unique city. They remained available concerning any needs or questions throughout our stay while yet being unintrusive and were extremely kind and attentive when our initial arrival time was delayed due to a rock cracking the windshield of our car in route, not to mention the follow-up repairs required. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending these vacation gems, notable in both the owners and the property!!!! Bev and John,...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Sarah Clifford Cottage during the weekend of the Volvo Tennis Open and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. This well-appointed two-story cottage with its contemporary interior was simply ideal for our stay. For those who enjoy cooking as we do, the kitchen was indeed gourmet. Likewise, the master bedroom suite was furnished with a very comfortable king bed, high quality linens, and ample storage space. Located in a quiet section of Charlotte St., the cottage is within easy walking distance of East Bay, Meeting, and King Streets. Ann and Fred were excellent hosts, responsive to our questions and offering an array of recommendations for enjoying the...
