We did the Combo Tour, Carriage Ride and Charleston Harbor Tour, over two different days. Both were fabulous and educational. This was our first time to Charleston, however, we were in the company of our daughter-in-law and her mom, both Charleston natives. Interesting thing on the Carriage Ride, which was really more a wagon ride with about 12 or so folks, was that what tour you end up on is done rather randomly. The carriage pulls up to this little shack and the folks within then tell you what tour you'll be on. We were hoping for the Battery Tour and fortunately received that route. It was great. We had a gentleman who is a high school teacher and tours on the side. With all the information he provided, he also kept us laughing playing off the Charleston way versus us Californians. We did enjoy being the fall guys. Any seating is great for views. They also take great care of their horses and monitor them continuously.
The next day we took the Charleston Harbor Tour. Clear skies, little breezy, you could sit either front or back, inside downstairs or outside upstairs. Bring sweaters or coats, leave the hat in the car, unless it sits snugly. The five of us sat upstairs, front, by the captain's door. That was fortuitous as he was both driving and giving the tour. Although he has lived in Charleston for three years, he knew his stuff. Pointed out everything all the way out to Fort Sumter, basically an island, depending on tides, then back by the Yorktown, nearby sub and a destroyer (?) and then under the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, turning around directly underneath for some great pictures. We all highly recommend both and with the Combo pack, saving money at the same...
Read moreWe went on the Easter Brunch Tour today. We purchased the VIP tickets. I have to say the boat wasn’t the cleanest, the windows particularly were extremely dusty. We started off by boarding 1 hour prior to the start time, because our VIP tickets allowed us to, and we also received a ticket for 1 free drink from the bar. Boarding 1 hour early was totally not worth the extra cost and the one drink was pretty small. The food served was not what was advertised, we were told shrimp and grits; but served sausage gravy with biscuits. Overall the food was okay. The captain did a pretty good job with narration throughout the ride , and explaining when food would be served and what to expect. A bottle of water was nearly $4! Overall something different to do for Easter, but we certainly could have found something else better to do for the cost of this tour. If you find yourself still wanting the experience, skip the VIP extra cost .....
Read moreScammers! Charged for a boat tour on the 4th. They "cancelled" going out on the water due to tropical storm coming in next days BUT DID NOT CANCEL TRIP OR REFUND! They stayed moored to dock further than original launch point with worse view, offered nothing to eat despite description saying there would be snacks, and left off A/C to further reduce their costs. NOTE - all the other cruise boats (e.g., dinner cruises) were out with no problem. TIP: You'd have better, more comfortable views from anywhere along the waterfront. Will report to BBB: This company was charging several hundred for captive audience (including kids) to rack up...
