I commonly transfer busses at Barracks Road, occasionally shop here. The reason shopping here is occasional is the shops located therein and their selection don't often align with my wants and needs. The grocery store at Barracks Road is Kroger, which has a few things I like but at a premium, fresh cut fruit, which doesn't fit my budget and I am capable of cutting my own fruit. The game stop is okay sometimes but most games aren't made to be sellable used and their used game prices are really close to new. The "health food" store, with a name that isn't particularly memorable, is on the pricey side for the type of store and only carries a couple of items in which I have any interest and aren't sold for less at another shop in Charlottesville. I could go on but for the sake of brevity I'll stop there and hope it's enough to give a general idea about the mall with just this last point, Barracks Road is an outdoor mall but lacks the atmosphere of the downtown mall being more like a jumbled few strip malls with a lot of asphalt to disrupt the airflow...
Read moreI'm from a small rural town. This was my first time in Old Navy. NEVER AGAIN! If I wanted the walmart experience I went there and saved my money. Horrible! Zero stars. You can thank your checkout line up, racks way to close (busted ankle from trying to step around to get out of the way of other shoppers) then there's young Miss Margaret. Your cashier who humiliated me. I walked through the line path and passed her checkout to stand away from ppl. When her customer left, I started walking up to cash out. She told me the line started "back there". I said I know, I came from there. Then she refused to wait on me. An older woman in a pink shirt cashed me out. (She wasn't wearing a name tag). I paid cash instead of credit and told her it was my first and last time shopping there! My trans no: 9036 @ 3:08:01 4/24/21. I spent $104.57 and regret it. My husband is having heart surgery and I'm stuck until Tues in C'ville or I wouldn't have made this purchase after the way I...
Read moreBarracks has a great variety of shops for students and townies alike. There are clothes stores for every budget and occasion (Old Navy, J. Jill, Kate Spade, Anthropologie, etc.), great local & chain dining & coffee (Chipotle, Zinburger, Greenberry's Coffee, the Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble) and of course Harris Teeter and Kroger for groceries. It is a well-kept shopping center and it's very pedestrian-friendly, but driving around the parking lots can really suck at peak hours with the high foot traffic and car congestion.
Some of the most useful places for me, as a student, have been Michael's Crafts, Kroger, Old Navy, and Bed Bath & Beyond. It is only a 30 minute walk or a 5 minute bike/drive from UVA and the Northline bus can bring you there, too. Just don't try to bring a ton of groceries on the bus. Been there, done that,...
