This store has been in a steady spiral for years. I hope it has hit bottom. When I was in the store two days ago, the two sales associates were complaining to each other about the fact that customers did not properly fold the clothes after they looked through a pile on the display tables. One of them, dressed in yellow jeans and a T-shirt with a very bold picture on it, told me I committed libel and that she had an attorney boyfriend when I called her Miss Giggly because she laughed when I said that my day was not as good as I would like because the sales associates complained about how I looked through the sales display. The caliber of sales associate in the store has become abysmal. These people never should have been promoted from their job at the gas station. The clothes are of a much lesser quality than at other Talbots stores and online. The combination of the poor quality clothes and the poor quality staff have driven me to go to online purchases only. This is very inconvenient, because, in effect, I have to pay shipping charges just to try on the clothes that I might be interested in buying, then drive to the store to return them. I was fortunate enough to meet Cynthia, who, despite helping other customers, happily answered any questions I had. Cynthia is not only extremely knowledgable about the products, size/fit, and styles available at Talbots, but she is also a remarkable stylist! Cynthia took the time to create several looks for me which I loved. She encouraged me to try items I would not have normally picked for myself. Retail can be a challenging industry to work in, but Cynthia truly makes it look effortless and easy. Her kind, charming, and helpful disposition serve her well. Read moreI visited today to physically see items from the latest catalog. Not one associate greeted me while shopping, which I expected based on the reviews. I had roughly 10-12 items in hand before going into dressing room..the items were too heavy to continue holding as I browsed the store. I tried on all items and while doing so at some point an associate came to “check on me.” There were a number of items that were lovely but I’d rather go to another Talbots store to close the sale or simply order online within the comfort of my own home. I may even search an online competitor, Hobbs.
