If you're looking for a place to enjoy some music and art in Chicago, you should definitely check out the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. It's a stunning outdoor venue that hosts events all year long, from classical concerts to rock festivals. The pavilion was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, who created a curvy metal canopy that covers the stage and the audience. The canopy is also a giant sound system that delivers high-quality sound to every seat. The pavilion is located in Millennium Park, which has many other attractions like the Cloud Gate sculpture and the Crown Fountain.
One of the most popular events at the pavilion is the Chicago Jazz Festival, which happens every summer. It's a free event that showcases some of the best jazz musicians from around the world. You can listen to different styles of jazz, from swing to fusion, and discover new artists or enjoy your favorites. The festival is a great way to celebrate the rich history and culture of jazz in Chicago, which is home to many legendary jazz clubs and performers.
The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is more than just a stage, it's a work of art that enhances the experience of music and culture in Chicago. It's a place where you can relax, have fun, and enjoy the beauty of the city. Whether you're a fan of classical, rock, jazz, or anything in between, you'll find something to love at...
Read moreThe pavilion was named for Jay Pritzker, Hyatt Hotel chain founder and of course establisher of the Pritzker Prize for Architecture. Chicago can be considered both a city of architecture and the execution of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park can prove it.
Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry stated that he would “like to design the relationship between the audience and the stage, and in so doing, he would answer the question of how to create an outdoor space “where the people who are far away from the orchestra feel like they are included in the performance.
Placement of speakers might make you wonder- The twenty-two steel arches of the trellis, some of which span more than 400 feet, allow the speakers to be placed above the audience without blocking sight lines
The pavilion is an open stage that seats upwards of 11,000 people in a mixture of fixed seats and the lawn and accommodates a full orchestra on stage. It includes 4000 fixed seats near the stage and can accommodate an additional 7000 people on the Great Lawn. Seating and lawn areas are built on top of a large underground carpark which remains very well concealed from pedestrians at...

You can bring food and something to drink in. I would suggest bringing your own because #1 the concession food is limited #2 As always, is expensive…but I did not know this beforehand so I did partake in eating and drinking from the concession.
There is a very large grass area for you to bring your blanket or bag chairs and maybe a little foldout table to enjoy the venue as well. I would advise getting there early though to stake out your space because it gets really crowded depending on the event.
Parking in the Millennium Garage will let you right within a few steps to the venue.
As far as weather is concerned, unless it’s dangerous weather, the events will go on as planned, and there is no shelter so you need to be prepared with a poncho or umbrella.
I definitely give the Pritzker Pavilion Millennium Park a high recommendation. Disclaimer: I know this heading shows Petrillo Music Shell…but I was actually across the street at the...
