I stayed almost two full months here and honestly I would have loved to stay much much longer; however the rates soared during St. Patrick's celebrations 🍾 and I had to check out.
I have extremely fond memories of this property when it was called the Burnham hotel owner by Kimpton boutique properties. The one thing I love the most about this hotel 🏨 is how much the staff treats you like family instead of a client and the layout of the hotel rooms feel like apartments instead of a hotel space.
Each room has extremely high ceilings making the room feel extremely spacious and upon check in they gave me an extremely beautiful room with a view of state street and the old Marshall fields building. I felt like royalty and so did my dog Mr. Troika.
Cassandra who is a supervisor at the front desk is incredibly warm, welcoming and very passionate about making the guests here feel special. I chatted with her the first evening and told her about me experiences at the Burnham and mentioned how the VIP members would receive a welcome gift of your favorite snacks and goodies. She decided to surprise me and had someone bring me up a plate of fruit, nuts and beautiful macarons all different pastel colors and soda pop. I was overwhelmed with how kind Cassandra truly is and she always gave my dog as many pup cups filled with whip cream as he could possibly handle.
What really melted my heart is the fact that many of the original housekeeping staff remembered me from my previous visits to the Burnham too! They also go out of their way to provide excellent service constantly checking up on me and asking if I needed service or extra towels or clean glasses. The Staypineapple truly is an example of everything a hotel truly should be.
Another thing I loved was having a room key 🔑 This hotel is a historical landmark building and each room comes with its own solid brass ornate key with a pineapple 🍍 logo on each key. I much prefer this feature to a keyword.
The manager of the kitchen even went out of his way to talk to me and we had wonderful conversations and his staff even treated me to a completely complementary salad 🥗 when the salad place next door was closed too early. The kitchen has a happy hour too where you can get a delicious burger 🍔 and beer or pop for only $10 which is a super value too.
Each afternoon there is a cookie 🍪 hour and every day you receive drinking cards so you can choose any beverage you want from beer, wine, a soda pop, a hot chocolate, coffee or an iced latte drink.
May I also add my pup Mr. Troika Celebrated his 3rd birthday 🎂 here and Cassandra surprised him by presenting him with a huge dish of vanilla ice cream and caramel topping. He was overjoyed and I wish to thank all the staff here for being so kind to him till he eventually broke free of his shyness.
If you have pets there are pet amenities here! They provide doggie beds, cute doggie treats, doggie poop bags and dishes for your pet if you need them. I wish to also add that you will receive your own water 💧 bottle to keep which you can refill daily with fresh sparkling or still water that is provided in the downstairs lobby.
Beth Anne and Cassandra did their best to work within my budget and waived certain fees so I could stay longer here. The only sad part of this visit was the day of departure. If I were a millionaire I'd buy a room here permanently just for myself to enjoy the vibes are that Good!
A huge thank you to everyone that made me feel so special.
Oh and I'd also love to add that I felt like all of my possessions were safe here! This past year unfortunately I had a few isolated incidents at a different hotel brand but not here. Everyone here is incredibly honest not to mention the beds here are extremely comfortable and the furniture is modern and up to date. They really do a wonderful job of maintaining the property here and making sure the staff is happy. I love the way the staff members here interact with...
Read moreMy husband and I booked this hotel after researching and actually booking a different hotel originally. We chose this because the cost was fairly low for a few days. We loved the amenities and the ability to have a bar and restaurant on site. The hotels entire vibe is suppose to be hospitality, and I must say most of the customer service provided was less than pleasing.
We were told we would likely be able to check in early since our train would be arriving around 3 hours before the usually time. I even offered to pay extra. Upon arrival we were told it would be close to 2pm (this was at noon) but they held our luggage. We were exhausted but got lunch and then went back and sat in the lobby around 2pm. It ended up being closer to 3pm. We got to our room and to be honest the view was amazing, but one side of the curtains did not roll up so you could really have the full view. You could see where they were broken. We still thought the big window view was great. I loved seeing the Chicago theater sign, especially at night.
I was so tired I wanted to take a nap. When I went to lay down I discovered the bed wasn't actually made, and no top sheets. I don't love the two comforters thing. I ended up just laying on the blankets and snoozing for a few. I look when I woke up and there was fur from a dog all over the bottom sheet. And the comforters. As well as a stain on the pillow cases. I called the front desk and the person who answered was less than pleasant. She said "well we don't have dogs on that floor so that can't be dog fur" but when I asked "do you wash all bedding togetger?" She just said she'd send someone in.
A housekeeper came by with a bottom sheet only, and I had to ask to have it all swapped out. He still did not swap the pillow cases out. But regardless I had clean bedding. I still could see staggering furs all over. Funny enough the last day I heard a dog barking two doors down so she lied about dogs not being on that floor...
Anyway, Darnell at the front desk was great at every interaction so shout out to him for making the experience good.
At the bar on tuesday night july 2, the bartender only payed attention to the two single women at the end of the bar and ignored us and another couple half the time, no making conversation with us, only them. When we tried interacting he gave us a blank stare. But smiled and gave suggestions on bars and stuff to do to in the area when we asked he just didn't care to engage.
In the morning of July 3rd we went to breakfast and the server was similar as the bartender. He did not pay much attention, was less than thrilled to be there and made us wait constantly to get service. No refills and made us wait to place an order. Also the woman with a mask who seated us acted like we did not belong there. She seated us at the worst table and acted like we were inconvenient.
I thought the bathrooms were outdated and the rooms had peeling wallpaper, room 1208 has water damage on the ceiling by the shower. It seemed musty smelling. The carpets pretty outdated throughout as well. I think for a 4 star hotel it could use some updating!
I'm not convinced we will come back. We do find the location great and the luggage hole good but I'm not sure that's really...
Read moreThe StayPineapple was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had.
We checked into our room on the fourth floor, and were immediately greeted by the sound of a dog barking loudly in one of the nearby units. As soon as we entered our room, the carpet was covered with thick white dog hair EVERYWHERE. It had clearly not been vacuumed. There was a crack in the ceiling of the room near the curtains, and the paint above the tub was peeling badly. The room itself was incredibly outdated, the carpet was unbelievably dusty & the general atmosphere was disorderly and unkept.
We went to the front desk with our concerns, and were immediately upgraded to a room on the top floor of the hotel with a view. At that point, we were so relieved and hoped our previous room was just a fluke. Unfortunately, even in one of the nicest rooms the hotel had to offer, we were met with the same issues. The carpet was dirty and dusty. We found a paper straw discarded next to the bed and a thick layer of dust on the headboard. Tiles were broken in the bathroom, the tub was moldy and had hair from a previous guest. I’ve stayed at motels in better shape than this so called “iconic” hotel. I was barely able to sleep from all the dust in the room, and had literal nightmares about the sheets we were sleeping in not being clean.
I would never return to this establishment and think the best thing that could happen to it is a gut renovation. It is extremely expensive for how shoddy the rooms are, and truly a disrespect to the beautiful building this hotel once was. We were meant to stay several nights, but had to leave after a singular night due to these appalling circumstances.
The ONLY saving grace for this establishment is the front desk, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable in situations they clearly had no control over. Everyone we interacted with was polite, courteous and extremely professional. Had it not been for the front desk support, we would have not even spent a single night here.
Save yourself the trouble, and stay literally anywhere...
