Millennium Monument is in the Wrigley Square of the Millennium Park in the middle of Chicago Downtown, surrounded by all the skyscrappers. The 40 ft high monument is a nearly full-sized replica of the semicircle of 24 paired Roman Doric-style Limestone columns (called a peristyle). The diameter of the semicircle is 80 ft.
The pedestal of the peristyle is inscribed with the names of the 115 financial donors (including Oprah Winfrey). It is adjacent to a large lawn and a public fountain. The fountain is a bronze-cast replica of the finials that adorn the Wrigley Building.
I went there during a December night, so you can understand how cold was the place at that time. We saw the giant Christmas tree in front. Free admission. Enough Parking, but crowdy.
