5/5 Stars: A Haven for Poetry Lovers
I've had the pleasure of visiting the Poetry Foundation's Reading Room in Chicago, and I must say, it's a gem. Tucked away in the heart of the city, this library is a haven for poetry enthusiasts. The moment you step inside, you're surrounded by the quiet, calming atmosphere that poetry deserves.
The reading room itself is beautifully designed, with a 125-seat space that boasts superb acoustics, perfect for author readings, musical performances, and intimate discussions. The seamless blend of modern architecture and classic literature is striking, with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that seem to stretch up to the ceiling, laden with an impressive collection of poetry books, anthologies, and rare editions.
What truly sets the Poetry Foundation apart is its commitment to fostering a love of poetry in people of all ages. The library offers a range of interactive workshops, programs, and book clubs, making it an excellent resource for both seasoned poetry lovers and those just discovering the world of verse. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about poetry, always willing to recommend titles or provide insights into the world of literature.
If you're a poetry enthusiast or just looking for a unique experience in Chicago, I highly recommend visiting the Poetry Foundation's Reading Room. Be sure to check their website for upcoming events and exhibitions, as they're always hosting something new and exciting.

Read morePoetry may be one of the leading publishers of poetry, but their customer service is absolutely horrible if an issue arises. I had missed the last 3 issues after being told by Kelsey Davis that, "Our records show that we received your order on May 24th for 11 issues at $22.00. Your new expiration date is July/August 2022." The the same person tells me that my payment didn't go through nearly 5 months later! No communication from Poetry and Kelsey had a bit of an attitude on her in my subsequent communications. In turn, keep your magazine and your entitled, arrogant customer service rep in Kelsey Davis. Better keep this job because I'm quite certain you wouldn't be able to find employment elsewhere. I'm...
Read moreThe building is one of the best hidden gems of Chicago. Designed by architect John Ronan, it reflects the organization’s mission of making poetry more visible and influential in American culture. It also hosts very interesting events and exhibitions for the public. Inside the library you can find a wide selection of modern and contemporary poetry. Just beware of Maggie, the library assistant. If you happen to be reading a non-poetry book or studying and she catches you, she will kick you in seconds. The Foundation must be happy with her because she takes poetry very serious. However, she does not posses good customer service and communication skills...
