Outstanding and outlandish is the overriding narrative for this review. I walked to the hotel here from another pretentious inn three blocks away where I had been staying but decided to vacate because of an infestation. Perhaps you could say rodents! However there are those in denial who would call the creatures ‘children.’ A lot of them. Everywhere. I had to pack up and leave or see a doctor to get a bottle of Xanax. Once that arrived at Eurostars I met the lovely Kailina at the front desk and booked a room where I would arrive the following morning. I was allowed to check in early and they had a fabulous room ready for me. Prior to my arrival I happened to look at some of the reviews and Google also took me to a video about the hotel that aired on television networks in Chicago in September 2021 claiming that this hotel was in violation of covid restrictive policies. I was listening to this video from 4 years ago with complete disbelief. They claimed the hotel would have parties with 75 people in one room and that is not even possible even if they were all anorexic like half those children down the street. There were outlandish claims and then the reporter halfway through says this is happening in all the hotels throughout the hospitality industry in Chicago. Well if that's the case why was the headline singling out Eurostsars? Talk about unfair unjust unwelcome unflattering biased journalism. Undoubtedly I assume that the hotel had damage control after that erroneous piece. If you want to know how awesome the hotel is, you have to ask yourself how they can still exist and sell out such a magnificently beautiful hotel after the publication of the aforementioned article. The very fact that Eurostars surpassed damage control and completely obliterated any credibility of that reporter is indicative that they are exceeding the hopes and dreams for the guests upon arrival. I wanted to write this because I have a feeling there were some people who would be hesitant to book this selection for their accommodation. That's a shame. And a sham. A potential misstep for ambitious lodgers while negating welcoming hospitality, aesthetic artistry, service values passing up this opportunity falling prey to critical error of myth and fallacy. To demonstrate that I am not biased I will share that my stay was not perfect but I have no such expectations. The staff is superb including the valets who treated me like I was the guest of the year when in fact they're not going to make a damn dime off of me cuz I don't have a car while here. Shout out to security and to Robert who is the head of this hotel exuding exemplary service. I have no complaints but I would have liked to have had a microwave in the room and I was not a fan of the mod design ceiling but I think most people would be. I don't like the elevator noise that announces little pings as you ride up the elevator and pass every floor. There is no perfect hotel and hotel staff. But I will tell you this… Eurostars is as...
Read moreI stayed here recently and had a very mixed experience. There were some positives, but also some serious concerns.
When we arrived, I was allowed to check in right away, which I really appreciated, especially since we got a free upgrade to a room I was told would normally cost $300+ — I never asked for the upgrade, so that was a nice surprise. However, when we walked in, there was still a staff member inside “setting up” the room, which made me a little nervous because I didn’t want the cleaning to be rushed. The room looked generally clean — I didn’t see dust or bugs — but the condition of the room overall wasn’t great.
The view was terrible. The windows are blocked by the hotel’s own balcony, which isn’t even available for guests to use. The balcony walls are about four feet high, so unless you’re tall, you can’t see much of anything except the skyline far in the distance.
The bathroom was large, with a shower that had five shower heads — two rain showers and three body showers — but only one rain shower worked. There were two benches inside the shower, but one didn’t look clean, and I believe I saw a stain that looked like blood.
The biggest problem was the rug in the room. It wasn’t secured to the floor, and one corner was sticking up and couldn’t be laid flat. My young son tripped on it and had to get two stitches. This happened around 5:45 PM on August 6. We immediately left for the hospital and didn’t return to the hotel until around midnight, so I reported it to the front desk the next morning, August 7.
When I first told the desk representative, he was polite but didn’t offer any real assistance — no first aid, no asking how my son was doing, and no explanation of next steps. I believe an incident report was filed, but no one informed me of it or offered me a copy. I specifically asked for the rug to be removed and said I did not want to change rooms. When we came back later that day, the rug was still there.
That night, I went back to the desk to fill out an incident report myself, only to be told there was already one but I couldn’t have a copy until a manager reviewed it. Later, another staff member came to my room and asked me to repeat the story, which I did, and he told me when management would be available.
This morning, after being told last night that I could speak with a manager to get the report, I went to the desk again. Instead of giving me the report or letting me speak to management, they told me I would need to get a subpoena in order to receive it.
While I appreciated the early check-in and free upgrade, the safety hazard in the room, my son’s injury, the lack of urgency in addressing it, and now being told I need a subpoena just to get a copy of my own incident report have left me extremely...
Read moreFor the price I paid, I was expecting a whole lot more from this hotel. Very disappointed in the room itself, the whole experience, and would never recommend it.
After a long exhausting work and travel day, I could not wait to get to my room and get to bed. I was immediately surprised at how outdated and damaged (scratches, dents, dings) all of the furniture was, then noticed how dirty and dusty everything was. I'm not even sure the bathroom had been thoroughly cleaned prior to my arrival which is pretty gross. There was something (maybe food) on the thermostat and on the remote.
After unpacking, I noticed the TV wouldn't turn on. So I wanted to call the front desk and ask for a new remote. But I couldn't because BOTH hotel phones were broken, couldn't get a dial tone or even turn it on to call downstairs. So I used my cell phone to call and housekeeping brought me another remote. That didn't work either, so housekeeping came back a second time with another remote which also didn't work. The TV was broke. So I used my cell to call back downstairs and was told I would need to switch rooms. So I had no choice but to repack my bags and head back to the lobby.
I asked if there was a less damaged, cleaner room and was told "all of our rooms are exactly the same here."
When I got to a new room and unpacked again, I could not believe the "city view" which was looking directly into another condo building. I could see directly into their apartments and they could see me. The issue I have is that the blinds didn't fully cover the windows! So even with the blinds are closed, I could see into the condos and vice versa. At a minimum guests need to have privacy when sleeping. And I would not call this a "city view" at all.
Then the worse part, the bed felt like a hard brick, worse than sleeping on the floor in my opinion. I barely slept at all and wanted to switch hotels but couldn't find another one available nearby.
I couldn't didn't sleep when I was there and came home exhausted. It would be a really good idea to remove damaged furniture and items from your hotel rooms, get some blinds that provide privacy, upgrade your beds and toilet paper, and actually clean the room. Oh and the AC wasn't working either. I set it to 69 degrees and woke up to a room that was 73 degrees. It was just one thing after another, so disappointing for the price I paid.
I emailed the hotel manager and also connected the booking site that I reserved the room with, I was told twice that they would offer me a discount on my next stay but would not discount my previous stay. No thank you.
