The crown jewel of Art in Chicago. There are plenty of great pieces in the permanent collection plus always check for special exhibitions. Since the Art Institute is a major player, most special exhibitions will come through Chicago. Also, since art must be protected against heat, cold, and moisture, the climate control inside is perfect.
Also, not to be missed are the Thorne Miniature Rooms on the Lower Level. I know, you think that you might be tired from seeing all the fabulous art upstairs. But this permanent exhibit are miniature room displays at a whole different level. All are arranged in chronological order for European and American times. Read moreI always wanted to visit the Art Institute of Chicago but what I encountered at the museum today made me never want to return because I didn’t feel safe here. As I entered the museum from East Monroe St, an African American lady behind me had the most racist and rudest demeanor which she pushed me through to enter. I was shocked this happened at the museum. I’m sure the majority of Chicagoans are friendly but I feel like I needed to write this review to raise awareness among other visitors to make sure similar incidents won’t happen again especially if you are Asian visitors.
