Hot Woks Cool Sushi is a Chicago favorite that blends creativity, flavor, and value in a way that’s hard to beat. Many sushi restaurants either lean toward being pricey or leave you wishing for more — this spot manages to offer both delicious, high-quality food and very accessible prices. The sushi menu covers everything from traditional rolls to signature creations that feel fresh and inventive. The fish is consistently fresh, the rolls are well-balanced, and the presentation is clean but not pretentious. Just as impressive are the wok dishes, which come out hot, generously portioned, and full of bold flavor. Whether you’re after a comforting noodle bowl, a stir fry, or something lighter like sashimi, you’ll leave satisfied without spending too much. Where Hot Woks Cool Sushi really shines is in the overall value. You can enjoy a proper sushi night without the sticker shock that often comes with dining out in Chicago. Even the drinks are priced fairly — the shot of Suntory is only $7.95, which is almost unheard of in the city. That small detail alone shows that they care about making the experience accessible while still delivering quality. The atmosphere is lively and modern but still casual enough that you can bring family, meet up with friends, or enjoy a laid-back date night. The staff is attentive, friendly, and always ready with helpful recommendations if you’re unsure what to try. All in all, Hot Woks Cool Sushi delivers fresh, flavorful dishes, creative rolls, hearty wok meals, and drinks at prices that won’t break the bank. It’s a place you can visit often without guilt — and every time, you’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next trip back.

Yep, that was a tourist trap. 5* for the food presentation, the setting and service. 1* for the actual food taste. The Crab Rangoon was OK, albeit a little raw on the inside. The Black Dragon sushi? Meh. Didn't taste like anything, really. Looked great but not much in terms of taste. My wife ordered the Tofu steak. The presentation looked incredible. Taste? They didn't even bother marinate the Tofu. They didn't even buy the correct kind. This wasn't firm tofu, it was super soft tofu, pan-fried in a tasteless batter to make it look good. The tempura onion rings were also flavorless. Generally speaking their tempuras are all quite weak. My Garlic ramen was extremely meh. Had a very weak umami flavor, and the chicken karaage was flavorless. I asked for it to be mild but it wasn't. The noodles? Biggest shocker: Felt and tasted like store bought instant noodles. That was definitely not Udon. For what we paid for this extremely weak meal, we could have driven north and had an epic Peking Duck meal at Sun-Wah. Shouldn't have expected much from a place right in front of the bean.

Nice cozy restaurant, within walking distance of Millennium Park. I am not a big fan of sushi however I gave this place a try because my daughter loves sushi. The restaurant is pretty clean and I like the ambiance. They have a rich menu. The Chinese Zodiac page that we received with the menu kept us entertained for a while. The service part was odd. The lady who helped us didn't like that we were new to this restaurant and asked questions about the food they have. We ordered Spicy shrimp for appetizers, Sushi Gold and Shrimp Bento. Sushi Gold came with a variety of sushi and most of them were delicious. We didn't like the Spicy Shrimp Sushi, It wasn't spicy at all and it had a weird taste that we didn't enjoy. Shrimp Bento was good but it is not something I would order again. I will give this restaurant a try one more time since I feel like the waitress made us uncomfortable and we picked the wrong items in a rush. Hopefully next time we will meet with someone more knowledgeable about their menu and happy to help us !!

This was my first visit, even though I have thought about eating here many times throughout the years. I wouldn't step foot in the place before, because I didn't see anything on the menu about gluten free options, unless I missed it. I wish restaurants would be more clear about allergens and options. I am guessing they lose business all the time because of this.

Anyway, a friend of mine wanted to meet there, so I took a chance. The staff is not that friendly, but they were able to make certain dishes gluten free, the obvious one being Pad Thai, which I am tired of; however, they said they could make Pad See Ew gluten free by removing the oyster sauce and using their gluten free soy sauce, so that's what I ordered...

It was good, but it was way too salty, had minimal broccoli, and of course not nearly as much food as my friend's dish, even though it costed more because of the change in ingredients! I understand that they are making it special, but I often feel like I get taken advantage of just for having an allergy. Ironically, I think she ordered Pad Thai, so I will probably just order that next time to avoid the upcharge!

I want to make a correction. I found the receipt and my GF dish was NOT more than the regular dishes..I...
