During the time I lived in Illinois, I had some great memories at Shore Acres and in Chillicothe! Quiet Shore Acres is a great place to spend an afternoon disc golfing and enjoying the Illinois River next to it.
I always went to the pool as a guest with my friend, a Chillicothe native. You can access this top-quality pool park for just $5 and enjoy one of the largest water slides (featuring two separate slides in one) I’ve been on as well as two diving boards.
The disc golf course is a basic Par 3 course on which the back 9 share the same holes and launchpads as the front. From what I understand, it partially stands over what used to be a campground and it keeps the woodsy feel of camping. You can frolf under the canopy of large, old trees without having to worry about getting your disc stuck in the trees or in underbrush, as there is none.
If you are new at disc golf/frolf and looking for a good beginner course, Shore Acres is just the place for you. It’s where I developed my frolf game, and the fact that it’s pretty difficult to lose a disc there makes it a lot less intimidating and easier to get better at the sport.
I’d give the overall quality of Shore Acres a 4.5 rating, but I’ll give it 5 stars due to the memories attached. Chillicothe is a wonderful town that most Bradley students don’t get to see, but I’m very happy to have gotten to know it during my college years in Illinois. The Chillicothe Park District does an excellent job...
