Chillicothe is a hidden gem. Tucked north of Peoria on the west riverfront, Shore Acres is home to a variety of activity. Public pool, pickleball, basketball, and a frisbee golf course. Picnic tables, outdoor grills, as well as a walkway and stairways to the rocky/sandy beach. I’d give it five stars if the beach was better maintained (some litter occasionally), so some room for improvement. But it’s all free (except for seasonal public pool), and as a community I believe many continue to do their part in keeping this area clean and safe. Read moreThe new park area here is fantastic! It's an accessible play for all playground with a Zipline, multiple swings, jungle gym, many different kinds of slides, picnic areas and a pavilion. Also included: beautiful, smooth paths and wonderful river views with free binoculars. The park is great for little kids and big kids alike with ample shade for sunny days, many benches near to the playing areas, and a wheelchair accessible portapotty.
