David McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena — Attraction in City of Batavia

David McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena once again has proven itself to be ineffective at becoming all it can be. I travel the area watching hockey games and find this arena to be the least friendly in terms of personnel and welcoming in terms of any heat for the spectators to watch the game. Their sponsor, a local funeral home really sets the tone for what to expect from this hockey arena. We have complained for years and years about the fact that there is no heat in the spectator area yet they just shrug their shoulders and quite frankly could care less. I’ve made the statement before that if they tried any less, we would have to take their pulse to make sure that they were still alive. I would not recommend this arena for any teams or any tournaments that might like to come and enjoy games. There is no excuse for this and it does not represent the best Batavia has to offer. The city should take a look at the structure and make the necessary repairs and bid out the operation to an entity that knows what...

Should 0 stars be allowed that’s what I would rate this rink at. Called hours in advance to ensure the pick up hockey would be going on and at what time. I showed up about 20 minutes prior to start and found that the high school game was running over the time, no big deal there. I asked the staff where I paid and they kind of seemed clueless so I said I’ll wait until someone comes out. Well 20 minutes goes by and finally someone speaks up and says “are you the only one for pick up?” I state that I am as far as my knowledge goes. Theybthen stated that they needed a minimum of 5 people in order to allow pick up to play. So after my 30 minute drive, and 45 minutes of waiting, I get to go home with my money. Likely the last time I’ll ever step foot in this building again. I highly recommend to the staff to be a little more clear and concise with information that’s put out. Just left there with my kids there upset because they can't skate. I spoke with someone a couple days ago about open skate. He told me fridays 7 to 9 . He never said they didn't have skates available and to bring our own. Every other skate place i been to always had rentals this is the first that didn't. If I would of known this I would of never got my kids hopes up. Don't say I should of went on the website first because I called.
