A National Treasure That Must Be Seen: The Corning Museum of Glass Welcome Center One of the most intriguing and distinctive places in the entire nation is the Corning Museum of Glass Welcome Center in Corning, New York. You will be amazed by this museum whether you are a child, an adult, a lover of art, a science enthusiast, or just an inquisitive tourist. The museum is enormous; there is so much to see that I strongly advise extending your visit by two or three days in order to see it all. Highlights include the glassblowing demonstrations, which provide a unique glimpse into the science and artistry of this age-old craft. It's fascinating and instructive to watch the professionals at work. Although the interactive "Make Your Own Glass" activity is a fun addition, you should expect to be more involved in some sessions than others. Seeing your creation come to life is still well worth the investment, especially when done under the supervision of knowledgeable experts. World-class artists' current exhibitions, breathtaking art installations, and amazing historical displays that vividly depict the history of glass are all on display at the museum. For many people, including myself, the most interesting aspect of the visit is the science section. In addition to souvenirs, the gift shop has amazing glass art that you will want to bring home. Although it was a little chilly when I visited, there is a good lunch area on the premises; just in case, pack a jacket. Logistics are made simple with free parking and a shuttle to Corning's downtown. All things considered, this location is a treasure trove of information and entertainment. Strongly advised for anyone traveling to New York State. Don't miss it—I will most...

Read moreI go to fewer museums than I used to with my preference being for major European museums and art galleries and museums like the Met in New York, but I have to say that the Corning Museum of Glass was fantastic and exceeded my expectations. It is truly world class.
The museum is fun, informative, interactive and very comprehensive. I did some glass blowing as well as the museum visit. The glass blowing was fun and I can’t wait to do it again. The museum had so many interesting pieces it’s hard to pick a favourite. The 35 centuries of glass gallery was phenomenal. It has collections from the earliest glass from ancient civilizations to the present day. The museum has purchased impressive pieces from all eras and all continents. I could have spent many hours just in this one gallery.
There’s a cafe with a good selection of food. I had a wrap for lunch. It was OK. Maybe the hot food is better.
The gift shop is huge with a great selection of glassware and non-glassware items. The prices are cheaper than in the glass shops on Market St. in...
