Well, my husband and I came today for breakfast/lunch. The food was well executed. I got the chicken sandwich without the spicy glaze and my husband got the Sawmill Omelet. My main issue that I will want to alert the owner to is that I specifically ordered no salt added to my food (very important for health issues). My food was not just salted, it was overly salted, with kosher salt (a good thing). I stated the importance of this twice to the girl who took my order and I have to say she did not actually acknowledge that it might be a problem to give me an opportunity to alter my order. I gave my fries to my husband. My chicken was salted, although it was fried perfectly and not at all greasy. The roll was delicious and the greens were very fresh. I am wondering how much you can veer from the menu. This is a great place. But, another accoutrement to my chicken instead of the spicy glaze (which I could not have) should have been suggested. My husband’s frittata was very good but he was disappointed there was no toast that accompanied the meal and he should have ordered it separately, so that’s on us. This is the only problem I have with no wait staff coming to the table afterward. Otherwise I don’t mind the vibe. They were very busy (which is a good thing) but I didn’t feel comfortable walking up to the counter and asking for a side a mayo, or to discuss the fact that my unsalted order was literally the opposite of what I ordered. I realize that Ella’s is a very needed addition to our community for a healthy breakfast/brunch option. But, mistakes like this can make or break a restaurant. I still will give it 4 stars, but I hope you will take my words to heart. We will be back, but this can’t happen again. The place is also very clean and...
Read moreI decided to pop in for their soft opening today and was totally enchanted. They have totally customized the restaurant to reflect their farmhouse style and the result is a cozy yet open space with a fresh, welcoming atmosphere. From the polished wood coffee bar to the shiplap and galvanized tin accents on the walls, living plant walls, custom made hanging lampshades and macrame pieces, the aesthetic is comfortable, inviting, and feels fluid from this restaurant to their two eateries at the Arnot Mall to their shining silver food truck found all over the region.
But, the physical setting is just prologue to the fabulously faceted food and beverage offerings. Today’s menu was limited in number, but extensive on taste. I had the Banana Bread Brûlée. I’m not qualified or fully capable of culinary commentary because I’m not at all a cook or baker. But, I love trying local and regional eateries and this is a gem. The banana bread was delicious, hot and served with homemade blackberry jam that was just the right mix of sweet and edgy tartness. Half of a banana accompanied the bread - split open and caramelized (the crunch!!) - and then there was this cinnamon pecan granola and locally sourced maple syrup… it was a taste and texture extravaganza that nonetheless made me feel like I was having all the best kept secrets of someone’s family kitchen. Comfort food right from the garden and the farm, cooked fresh, plated beautifully, and so tasty that it made me dance in my seat.
My Turtle Tracks mocha was rich and delicious - complete with the prettiest foam art.
Fantastic service, I was introduced to staff and they were perfectly attentive. I can’t wait to return with family and friends (&...
Read moreWe visited this place for breakfast and had a really frustrating experience. While we understand it was busy, our order was completely missed. After waiting 30 minutes, we checked with a staff member who said they would prioritize it. Ten minutes later, we were served bacon and fries — which we never ordered. Another 5 minutes passed before someone came over to actually ask what we had originally ordered. Our correct food finally came 55 minutes after ordering.
Worse still, when we asked about our order midway, one of the staff gave a rude response — “It’ll come out when it’s ready” — which felt dismissive and unprofessional.
We were there with two toddlers and asked twice for highchairs. Both times we were told they’d bring them, but no one followed through, and we ended up feeding the kids on our laps, which was far from ideal.
To make things worse, there were flies constantly buzzing around while we were trying to eat — very unpleasant.
Overall, this was a stressful and disappointing visit. The service was disorganized; the staff were unhelpful. Unfortunately, we won’t...
