As a local guide on Google I consider it my duty to travel the world and leave a review wherever I go so as to help my fellow man who stops in after me. If I consider all the local grocery stores Wegmans takes the top place for Ithaca, NY. You won't find a better grocery store anywhere in this area. Why is it the best food store to shop at? The best way to describe it is to say it is a "Premium Grocery Shopping Experience". It's like the Mercedes of grocery stores except without the top of the world price tag for the most part as deals are everywhere. To put it in a few words "you get what you pay for". Yes you do pay a bit more for certain products but you pay more for the experience, the atmosphere, and the selection. Just look at the selection of cheese, it's cheese heaven here. If you go into Wegmans you get to choose from a selection that other grocery stores pale in comparison too. It doesn't feel like shopping in a warehouse like it feels like in Walmart as the atmosphere is completely different. Signs are constantly changed and decorations are changed for every season. All the small details are payed attention too and this is the reason why you have to sometimes pay more for certain groceries, but not all of them as there are plenty of deals to be found here. The Ithaca Wegmans is one of the bigger Wegmans locations that they offer. And I do see Wegmans expending across the USA as more and more people get to experience how different shopping here is. Now if you decide to enter the doors of the Ithaca Wegmans there are a few places that need special attention. Those places are: the cheese isles, the bakery, and the prepared foods sections. These are the more premium and fancy parts of the store that Wegmans dedicates a lot of attention and money towards. And if you go to them you will see why this is the case. You have to experience it for yourself to truly see what the fuss is about. Once you do you will see why it is such a different grocery store from Walmart, Tops, Target, and the others. Thanks for reading my review and i hope it helped...
Read moreUpdate: I don't understand how people trained as butchers do not understand how to cut beef tips, deny ever having done so here, when I purchased them here before, and they were prepared correctly. Why would Wegmans put out for sale prepared food which was obviously burned? With that particular pungent odor still in the air? Why they would move an adult zinc cold aide to supplements but leave the same kids version in cold remedies? The old elan that was Wegmans, that high quality veneer, has worn away.
Wegmans is less a food store than a lifestyle. It is a way of living, eating, buying, reasoning. Huge parking lot off Meadow...which frequently people speed through as if no one else is around. Typical Ithaca. There is WC accessible parking and a huge automatic entry. The store is vast. Food specialists in so many sections - bakery special orders, great taste. Produce sections loaded with organic delights - get hooked on kale, ugly fruit. Talk to the cheese guy for something new. Only at Wegmans are folks concerned to not sell roast beef which looks too red. Prices are everyday "low" but look for bonus packs for deals. They do run specials like on soda. Fabulous kosher, mammoth vegetarian section. Buy self-service food, pizza, Mom's macaroni salad (yummy) and take your food upstairs or downstairs to eat. Great selection at the coffee bar. There was a time they did not offer delivery since "its not the ethos". Like anyplace else not everything branded Wegmans is good. Never buy their water. Horrible. No hard liquor here, just gourmet & regular beer. No wine except coolers - "hard cider." Celebrate seasonal changes here strolling down the aisles. Buy anything - serving platters, pots, pans, plungers - so much is available. Still privately owned by the original family. I know people who go daily. It's 24 hours. Great for people watching at different times of day. People move here, or don't leave - because of Wegmans. Visit - you'll never forget it. Life-changing. Like...
Read moreAs a full-time Instacart shopper, I very much look forward to shopping here. I know where everything is, and can navigate the store very simply ((with the exception of the crowd inside). There is a great explanation for the crowd. The produce is picturesque, like out of Better Homes and Gardens. The staff is friendly (I now know many by name and they know me by name! That's very welcoming!), and most will go out of their way to help you. Tam, usually works in the cheese area goes above and beyond to help anyone. She is friendly, and offers great advice, and suggestions to which cheeses you may enjoy (yes, I like cheese). I feel horrible for not remember the name of the woman at the deli that let me try all the choices of prosciutto, and stated her favorite. After talking to her, she was able to find me MY favorite! As a full-time Instacart shopper, I have gotten to know many cashiers. They are friendly, offer conversation, and are very concious as to how you would like your items bagged. Matter of fact, I see them so often, that when I go in for my personal groceries, I don't even bother them, and use the self checkout. However, when I do see them, they make it a point to say hi! Helping hands are amazing as well! They are probably the most friendly group of individuals, even in a blizzard. They are happy to help you, and, from personal experience, the friendliest folks you will ever see pushing carts. Matter of fact, they have helped me make money because I never need to go back outside to find a cart (SORRY TOPS). I've asked to tip them before, and they respectfully refuse. The service desk says it's against police, but these folks really deserve it! Perhaps, this winter, I'll be allowed to at least get them a gift card to get a hot coffee. I love this store, and shop here every single chance I get! Thank you...
