Every year there are concerts and there is a variety of different musical genera's. We even had a visit from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The music they played was very uplifting and foot stomping. Ok, I am a classical nerd, but even people I came with were very into the music performance. I was invited to a BBQ at one of the shelters and it was not the best experiences. The people next to our shelter had their music blaring to the point that I almost had to shout to have a conversation. That was absolutely a negative that I would go somewhere else to have a BBQ. So sad as Ontario Beach Park or Charlotte is a beautiful venue and there is a few vendors in a near by building or along Lake Avenue to enjoy food. Now, the beach is also inclusive, by that I mean there is a blue carpet on the sand so people in wheelchairs can come onto the beach and get nearer to the water than ever before. I wish that the city and or the County of Monroe would make it a little longer, so people could have a more room to move around. The parking lot is fairly large and has many handicap spots, but when the concerts have popular bands, the spots go quickly. Even for any parking spot, you must get there early or risk parking somewhere in the next county. All in all, I still feel safe during the concerts as there are people there and very visible. One last thought; beware of the handicap spots are ticketed if the hanging of the blue is not shown, you will...
Read moreWe went early on the 4th of July. It was very crowded before noon with families on the grass near the boardwalk and on the sand. Everyone had there own space and it was very peaceful. Almost all the families on the sand were families with small kids under 12. There were a lot of elders sitting enjoying their day also. There were lots of guards in rotation. The 85° weather made for beautiful scenery with all the boats out on the water. 4 hours were enough for us and as we were leaving we saw where it had gotten packed on the green spaces with families of various ages and lots of older kids and teens started heading into the water. Every available space had a family enjoying themselves. Most of the families with babies had already had their morning of fun and left so there was no issue of little kids getting accidentally bumped or splashed. The beach sand was sifted clean and the restrooms were pretty clean considering the heavily rotating crowds. Plenty of toilet paper was available. Beautiful day...
Read more2.5 Stars. This beach has been a staple of Rochester for a very long time. On a hot day nothing better than to go down to the beach. However nowadays on a hot day if you go down there it sometimes stinks horribly with the algae and what-not. We never had that problem 25 years ago. It has an eclectic mix of people. You might walk by the mayor and a second later, a homeless person. Pass a policeman or policewoman and then someone from Fairport or the inner city. They used to have a festival with all the tall ships that was really fun to attend. But the crime has stopped a lot of the big things happening down there. And then they also decided to get rid of some parking lot area and use it for boat docks. Not too sure how many people can afford to use those docks but it's probably not your average person. They took up a lot of parking space so now you have to park farther away. Here's hoping the next mayor will try to straighten up things and make our park...
