Riverside Park — Attraction in City of Schenectady

You really have to be careful there's a lot of heroin addicts in that Park. especially by the basketball court. I walk my dog down there. and I look for needles on the ground before I let him walk too far away from me. they've arrested people in the park. for pornography books on the ground and a Gentleman asking a woman and children to look at them. he was arrested. two women overdose in the park this summer. they're okay. If you're in your driveway on any of the side streets that go down to the park you're a target for drug users that ask you for money. to support their habit. there's a lot of break-ins down here on the side streets, that go to that Park. it used to be a nice neighborhood I don't know what happened. The residents that have lived here for a long time blame it on the casino. Nonsense! They play the blame game down here. They don't want to believe it's an epidemic everywhere. Oh and let's not forget the homeless that sleep in the park along the edge of the river on the benches adjacent to the park police can only do so much is shoo them away not arrested for loitering or vagrancy. Riverside Park is a very special place. The park itself was clean. The equipment was sized for young children. The two slides were manageable for my 2.5 yr old granddaughter who loved the park and all the other rides were easily accessible. The constant view of the Mohawk River was fantastic. The day we visited Riverside Park we got an unexpected treat. A group of six crew boats from the local high schools were practicing. I've been taking my walks and gone fishing down there for 35 years, the "Stockade" area is by far, my favorite place next to "Central Park". It has a beautiful 18th century look, something like an old "French quarter" atmosphere with the buildings and street layout. They've recently lengthened and updated the bike trail to go all down along "River's-Casino", right next to the Mohawk River. Fishing is great for some huge carp early in the morning...
