Car: 2004 Subaru Impreza TS - Blue.
I came to this shop after noticing that they do NYS Inspections while my car was getting washed at Suds across the street. I only had a few weeks left and knew it had to get done. I called in advance to see if the shop had availability for a walk-in. They did.
Upon pulling up to the shop and turning off the car, I noticed that the owner of the shop had to turn on the car a few times before finally getting it into the shop. Something that was completely unexpected. With a serious face, he told me and my wife âYou guys need a tune-up!â
Me and my wife knew about the extra cranking/grinding noise as we turned on the ignition for several months but have disregarded it as we thought it being an âold carâ thing. It was complete neglect on our end.
He opened up the hood and noticed that while the spark plug wires are new, the starter/solenoid is going bad or is bad. He said we need it to get it changed as soon as possible otherwise the car will shut down while driving. We have a EJ251 Engine and the owner smiled. He said that he appreciates working on engines like this because they are so easy to work on. Saving money on labor costs.
While we passed the inspection, upon exiting the shop, the car no longer wanted to turn on. No matter how many times we tried, we couldnât get it running. I ran back in and informed the owner about it. He ran outside, back to the car and was able to get the car running enough to put it in reverse and park it back into the shop before it shut off permanently.
Thatâs when he told me and my wife the unfortunate news that the starter/solenoid is done. Parts needed to be ordered and repair was necessary.
With parts and labor, he quoted us a little over $1,000 dollars. I cringed but me and my wife agreed to split it down the middle evenly and knew that it needed to get done.
We left the car at the shop on Monday and the car was ready by Wednesday afternoon.
In conclusion, we were nervous about leaving the car at the shop because there are so many car repair shops that are shifty, suspicious and greedy. Me and my wife have bad PTSD and have a difficult time looking for a good honest mechanic.
Albeit a tad bit expensive repair, the car is running phenomenal and the owner of the shop was kind, understanding but also firm. We appreciate the work that he has done to the car and have no issues.
Side note: It is unclear if the owner of the shop is ok with customer buying parts themselves online and brining it to the shop for just labor work only. A lot of shops refuse to work on cars when customers buy...

Read morehappen to be driving by, i have a 1993 honda accord which requires a safety inspection as per nys law. this bozo says my muffler is illegal. what a joke! guy is an older man so probably does not know cars of this age are exempt from emissions as per nys inspection law. sir you need to retire if you do not know simple laws regarding inspections that you should if you are going to perform them. a cars muffler has nothing to do with âsafety as long as itâs below required decibels. went down the block got it done for 11.00 dollars in 3 mins. pretty sure the person at dcp was looking for a âtipâ. if i had read the reviews before i would have never let this guy even touch my car. you should know crooked mechanics when they respond to a truthful review with â thank you for your reviewâ. tons of misdiagnoses on cars to milk people out of money for unnecessary repairs! you should be...
