Now I can’t believe some people had the same issue as I did! Some of these comments make me feel heard. Today I took my puppy to get groomed. They said he can’t come back and will no longer service him. Here are some issues I have with this.
This is his third time getting groomed. He is only 6 months. A puppy. Very excited and happy. There was never an issues besides his paws/nails in previous sessions. Which I took that feedback and started clipping his paws myself to desensitize him. I was never told that he was giving them issues with cutting his face until TODAY. The same day they decided they can’t take him anymore. The issue was that he would pull his face back and jolt every time they cut. Which could be hazardous because they can cut him. Which is understood. There was no warning or conversation. Yeah would have appreciated that I was told something because I could have went back and adjusted his behavior for the next session. He is a PUPPY. He has only done grooming twice prior. Based on other comments it seems like they are just removing dogs from petco grooming for any reason at all with no professionalism. If your dog isn’t perfect and sits still and doesn’t breathe then maybe this place is good for you. Their suggestion was the go to a private groomer and give my dog a calming treat. A PUPPY!!!! It’s really not that serious. He’s a baby that is currently learning and having puppy behaviors that I will happily correct.
I’m sorry others had to experience similar situation within the past couples months.
Now the person who was grooming my dog was great. We love her. I didn’t catch the name other of the other woman that seemed to have a problem with everyone and whom came to speak to me that they were removing my pup. It is very upsetting because my dog is just a pup and the point of getting groomed is so he can he use to it. And removing them just because they move their face around wasn’t too justifiable for me. I’ve seen some dogs be pretty ridiculous and they will still cut their hair at other locations. I’m actually pretty upset because I always spoke highly of this petco. I did call the manager and he seemed concerned on how they approached the situation. And that he will be speaking with the salon staff. But for right now I wouldn’t recommend this petco for grooming. Especially if you have a puppy. It’s unfortunate and I do appreciate the manager addressing the issue. But overall it’s getting a 1 star for me. Let’s see if other comments flood in about this same issue. I’m glad I am not...
Read moreWe have been bringing our rescue wire fox terrier to petco for grooming for over 5 years. Groomer, Melissa did a great job, was friendly, accommodating, and we considered her a friend until our last appointment. Our pup gets an express grooming that we pay extra for. We give generous tips and Xmas bonus. Our dog is blind has been so for about two years. Is an easy customer very well behaved etc. Melissa asked us how is she doing as she always does and I told her that the last months grooming she didn't trim fur between foot pads. Our dog was very itchy and was biting her feet so I took her to vet for meds to soothe them vet recommended a cytopoint shot which our dog, Lola, sadly had a bad reaction to. After a few days and some tummy meds she's now fine but Melissa responded with “Lola is very fragile and that if I groom her I will loose her job”. I thought she wanted to postpone the grooming which was unnecessary but she actually told us it's a corporate decision and she will no longer groom her. She told us to go find another groomer and then dismissed us. Lola gets groomed every four weeks. So basically either Melissa or petco has the right to discriminate against any animal they deem anything uncompliant to some arbitrary non medical or otherwise standard they choose. We felt insulted, angry, disgusted, and supremely inconvenienced. Most groomers require a few hours of time to groom and crate the dogs. Lola was abandoned not once but numerous times in her life and can't tolerate being away from us for hours, nor can she be crated without extreme stress. Finding a new groomer during pandemic times is hard enough but most are not accepting new clients as well. This is a sadly unprofessional action that borders on inhumane. Every time your dog is groomed here you sign a waiver absolving petco of liability. If they want vet records as to her healthiness or ability to be groomed they should ask for one or call our vet. I made a complaint to corporate and was told they will contact me within 48 hours. Of course I have heard nothing. To be treated with rampant disrespect at the whimsy of the manager of grooming after 5 years is something you should be prepared to experience when dealing with this store. If I could give a zero rating I would. We have given Melissa great ratings each month on customer questionnaire. This undoes all of that and I think that's...
Read moreDecided to take my dog here for a second chance after my usual groomer being booked already and after it being a problem about 2 years ago because he was “too hyper”. I’ve been to the one in Edison and never have gotten complaint about him but because this location was closer and more convenient I came here when I shouldn’t have. Upon pick up time, I was notified that I should go else where because my dog was nibbling at the brush during grooming.. sounds normal and harmless to me. Especially for the fact he’s gotten his check ups there and up to date with vaccines there just last month so he’s perfectly healthy.
The Woman told me that it took 3 people to groom my little morkie that weighs less than 15 pounds. Very small dog, why 3 people ? I have no idea. My usual groomer works alone at her shop and has never complained about my dog because she’s passionate about what she does and doesn’t just do it to get paid. She enjoys it. Every one that knows my dog knows he’s very hyper and friendly.
The woman also took it upon herself to cancel my appointment without my consent and didn’t even bring it up while I was paying for this service.
Also, Not sure what the whole point was bringing just about every groomer to the register as if this was gonna be a whole discussion and argument about their decision and she needed back up or something.
Anyway, don’t bring your dog here if you want them to feel welcomed. I’d rather wait for an opening at my usual than go here again. If you’re looking for a groomer who is patient and passionate with your pups, go to bark fine grooming. She’s amazing with dogs , and save yourself the hassle here.
Edit- not sure who was the woman with the reddish brown short hair and glasses was but the name Karina was on the receipt, so if that isn’t you, thank the person who basically told me not to come back here again and canceling my appointment without notice for ruining your reputation...
