We used to come here all the time. I have watched the changes over the last 30 years. It's looking great. 30 years ago there was nothing much here at all. Had most of my oldest son's birthday party here. Big enough space for the whole family and their families and friends to come. And still have more than enough room for the kids to run and play anything they want to. Even football. And they even have a bathrooms now. Besides the first set of swings, the gazebo was the next thing that they had put in which was wonderful for the food and cake give me place there perfect. Love it. Just hate that it's the kind of times that it has to have a gate and be closed. Sad really. when I was a teenager, I wanted to hide no matter what time it was, I could go there sit under the bridge by the water. The water always did calm me, always made feel better, and nothing was ever said. Didn't have to cross over. It was...
Read moreWe've been to Pitts Park for several events (crafts fair, car show, and a fund raiser), and it's a small city park. It has a playground, rest, and a small pavilion. There's adequate parking when there are no events, but expect to park on the street if there is.
The real downside to Pitts Park is that it borders a large creek/small river and is in the flood plain. Half an inch of rain, and the entire right side of the park is under water. Any significant rain and the entire park floods (a couple people were arrested when kayaking in the park after a major rain event). If it floods 2 or 3 days before an event, wear your wellies (rain boots, preferably hip waders).
Ideally there should be a retaining wall, but I'm guessing it's impractical due to cost and likely federal or state water laws. We jokingly call it Pitts Lake...
Read moreWe came here from Florida to see the total eclipse. They had plenty of handicap parking available, which was nice for my mother who uses a walker and is on oxygen. The town really did this event up right. There was a food truck, bounce houses for the kids, shaved ice, and live entertainment. They had a live feed of the eclipse from a filtered telescope. There was a local meteorologist who explained to us what we would see during totality. They had the perfect playlist playing after the live entertainment. My only complaint were the lack of bathrooms. There was only one women's toilet and two portaletts that stunk way...
