Oklahoma Route 66 Museum Route 66 Clinton, Oklahoma
After arriving in Oklahoma, we knew that there were two Route 66 Museums we wanted to visit. The first one is located in Elk City, Oklahoma, and was closed for the Juneteenth Holiday. It was getting late, but we still decided to drive to the other Museum, Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, which is located in Clinton, Oklahoma. Luckily, this museum was still open, and we had some time to visit.
From the exterior, the museum itself is beautiful and definitely eye-catching. On one side of the parking lot was a replica of a diner, and it was fun to look inside.
The museum was great inside. It definitely is spacious, especially near when you first enter the lobby. There is a small fee to visit the museum, but it is well worth the price of admission.
The museum itself houses a lot of displays, exhibits, memorabilia, photos, and artwork from different areas of Route 66. You will find photos and artwork from people you may know, such as Jerry Mcclanahan of Mcjerry's and EZ66 Guide to Route 66. There is also lots of information and history to read about Route 66, such as those with past motels, diners, and drive-ins. There was even a fascinating section on "Mobilizing On Route 66," which explains the change that came about in WW II. Another section you will find is "The Property And Preservation Of Route 66". The museum is rather spacious, and the many exhibits are great.
The museum also has a fantastic gift shop and the staff of volunteers who work here are all very friendly and knowledgeable. It was fun speaking with the staff. As usual, we bought lots of souvenirs. Their level of customer service is excellent. This definitely is one museum that people need to visit when traveling...
Read moreThe Oklahoma Route 66 Museum has such an abundance of materials, this is one review of several due to the amount of photos I have taken….. I hope viewers will take time to see it in its entirety and appreciate the effort and time I spent on posting this.
Review #1 We stopped at the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum as it was conveniently on our way home. And this is one decision I made that I will never regret! It was educational, informative and amazing!
This museum was so much more than I expected and the price of admission was more than worth it.
The museum is strategically set up by rooms representing each decade and if you press a button located just inside each room you’ll hear a song from that time!
There are displays set up throughout each room, along with various framed photos, posters, etc. representing that decade in time. It was extremely well organized and designed and patrons could spend as little or as much time as they wanted in each room.
Also, as you progressed through each room (decade), there are areas where you’re surrounded by newspaper articles on three sides, left, right and overhead from that era. Personally, I found these to be truly amazing for the simple fact that one tends to “forget” some of the most important facts that are part of our history! I have included some comments on the photos as examples, so be sure to check them out after reading...
