I am a 4.0 GPA graduate of the Master’s Degree in Information Technology: Project Management as of today, April 2, 2025 at University of Maryland Global campus, formerly University of Maryland University College. I do not recommend this university. Course content is copy/pasted and the testing of materials haphazard, to the detriment of a busy professional. While I was able to dig through and develop my interests and skills with my global teams, most are not so fortunate. Here is an example of my last email sent to the professor, program manager, and director:
All,
I obviously achieved 100% on the Final Exam with a second attempt that indicates the error. However, 10/47 questions have issues or 21% of the exam. 6/10 should be thrown out for the entire class as they are completely impossible for a student to have answered these correctly, even citing the course content. 4/10 should be thrown out for the entire class because they are poorly worded or have no discernible answer from the course content. For clarity -- 10/47 questions have issues, 21% of the final exam. 3 of them inarguably wrong/against content (see screenshot) Even if you estimate half valid, that's 10% of the final exam which is an entire grade letter. I achieved a B the first attempt, as a 4.0 GPA student who spent an extraordinary amount of time just parsing out the poorly worded exam, not a clear indication of my grasp of the material. I hope you'll adjust the grades for the entire class accordingly and not allow this exam to continue in its current format. Christina (I then walked through each question with the error, including screenshot from course content that directly contradicts the answer)
The Director’s response:
I am happy to hear you did so well on the exam. FERPA guidelines say we cannot discuss the grades of others with you. I hope you appreciate the adherence to privacy laws.
Congratulations on the completion of your degree. Wishing you well in your future endeavors
I responded:
I did not and would not ask for you to discuss the grades of others with me. That is an interestingly not appropriate response to my email that identifies the poor quality of the exam and advocates for systemic and structural exam fairness on behalf of all students. ——————————————————— This is a small glimpse into the odd administration of a master’s degree program, full of responses that don’t directly address your cleary communicated questions and avoid valuable help, especially when it means work for them. Often, their professional credentials are referenced — “PhD, PMP, PE” — as a magic wand of how can you question that the answer provided wasn’t perfect or sufficient, instead of addressing the root cause question that you have efficiently asked. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or want further insights, I do...
Read moreSee nobody returned my email even after they responded to my negative review on Google. This univerisity is a JOKE and a WAIST of TIME. If something goes wrong with a online course, DO NOT expect your success coach to work with you to resolve the problem with your instructors. If I could go lower on the stars I would. Instructor didn't open classroom to review the contents of the class until a week after the star of the class. Staff lies to their students by telling them that they have no extension number to reach them. Don't believe it if they try this stunt with you. I had to write a letter to the resolutions office stating how dissatisfied with the way my problem was resolved. Not my problem that this institution is hiring incompetent people who don't know how to handle issues with student problems with the classroom. I plan to turn this matter over to a Maryland State Delegate, so they can investigate into this matter. I already emailed the resolutions office, and the head of the cybersecurity dept. Nobody had the nerve to even call me to discuss. UMGC is making me pay for classes where the issues were caused by the instructor causing me to drop the course. The instructor didn't have the classroom set up right in the first place and none of the required links that were needed to successfully complete the course were not activated. The dates that the course contents was set to open a week later then the start of the class, putting everyone a week behind schedule. Its not right that UMGC causes the issues and the students have to suffer with the costs of the class even though the issue was caused by the instructors and staff. UMGC doesn't care about its students and this is bad business practice. They teach listening and problem-solving skills to their students, but they can't get their staff to follow what they teach in the textbook. That is sad!!! This problem needs to be investigated by a higher authority and actions need to be taken to prevent this institution from doing this stunt with...
Read moreThis school sends students and former employees to collections for fun. Please be cautious before coming here or even applying. They sent me to collections due to not receiving their equipment when there is proof on both ends of miscommunication. Now that I have been trying to return the equipment, they want me to send it back but I still will have to pay collections. Make that make sense!!!! I also left because of a major family crisis and even with proof I was not given a reasonable accommodation. They do not care for family emergencies or personal crisis. All they care about is their money. Their finance team is the biggest scam. I am so happy I chose to leave when I discovered the things they do just to get money out of people. They have a whole department to spam call students who owe. It’s ridiculous and majority of the students who don’t return always say the same thing. They couldn’t communicate with their professors or the lack there of. Just apply to another school don’t come here!!!
UPDATE: 06/05/2025- An email was sent to me from the social network department stating an investigation is being done. But I received an email from the same person who put me in this situation to begin with. I am still in collections and UMGC is refusing to send me a letter stating their finance department will remove me from collections upon receipt of equipment. I need someone from the finance department to reach out to me and they keep wanting to communicate via email. Which I’m pretty sure is for legal reasons because UMGC sent their email attempts to the collection agency but they did not send my responses. This is becoming emotionally draining and affecting my health and livelihood at this point. Please do not work or attend this school it’s not worth the mental and emotional damage. I have been in and out of the hospital due to this and this is has severely impacted my credit score which is hindering serious life developments I have been...
