My best friend and I had been intending to try Jumbo Jumbo for a very long time, since we saw that they had opened in this location. The customer service and atmosphere was great, they were friendly and patient when it came to waiting on my best friend and I to decide which flavour bubble tea drinks we wanted to get. They had plenty of flavours we had not tried before, such as blueberry, strawberry, lover fruit and more. They had three different sized drink options, and the largest one really is "jumbo!" I chose a large kiwi bubble tea and B chose a blueberry bubble tea. While the flavours were decent, the kiwi flavour was quite artificial-tasting and the colour was a bright neon green. Blueberry actually tasted and looked like there were some blueberries in it. Otherwise, we know that they use a syrup to make at least the majority of their teas. As most of you likely know, College Park has limited parking and it is all paid parking. However, the visitor parking for Jumbo Jumbo is pretty much non-existent. We snuck and parked in the campus lot (UMD) but otherwise, we didn't even really see any parking, paid or otherwise. Jumbo Jumbo does have food, but it is NOT vegan friendly, so I cannot eat there, which is fine because we were only looking to try their bubble tea anyway. There were plenty of people in there, which goes to show that they are a good restaurant. I would definitely recommend giving them a try, because their flavours are a little different than the other bubble tea locations in...
Read moreThis ostensibly Taiwanese eatery is located on the ground floor of a new apartment building with the only designated parking inside the rear of the building which is difficult to notice as you drive by. The menu boards above the walk-up order counter did not include prices and our attention was directed to some soiled paper take out menus. The hot food arrived quickly. I had the crispy asian chicken and pork on rice. The heavily battered fried chicken breast was sliced into wide strips and had a unique taste. However, the very plain white rice and cabbage was topped with a stingy sprinkling of pork crumbs. My wife had vegetable low mein which she enjoyed. But everytime the front door was opened our napkins were blown off our wall side table. We made the mistake of deciding to try a dessert based on an interesting poster. We received a gigantic bowl with a huge mountain of roughly crushed ice topped with some kind of small sugary red beans and because they didn't have the condensed milk as depicted, we settled for a sugar syrup. It was absolutely horrid and inedible. I don't think the viscous milk drizzle would of made any difference. This is not a serious dining establishment. It's a carry-out for nearby UMD students on foot and probably staffed by same. Just don't order...
Read moreI found a string of plastic in the ground meat while having taiwanese chicken with rice and asked my boyfriend to talk to the person at the counter. She spoke with him in a very rude way, maybe because her proficiency in English or whatnot, but her voice was very loud and did not apologize or explain the issue. She said she would make a new one for us and they did. There was another string of plastic sitting on top of the food again. This time I went up to her and the cook came out and said it’s from the container. Based on the fact that the cook already knew where it came from, I can only assume that it has been an issue to many customers and they are very well aware of it. But the customer service of the woman at the counter and zero effort to improve on the issue are well deserved reason for my one star review. The lady even told the cook with very loud voice once again, “HE DOESN’T LISTEN!!” referring to my boyfriend who initially complained about the string of plastic in the ground meat, not on the food (oh-oh, that was the second time). Unacceptably rude and more over unacceptable sanitary issue. I used to go here a lot during my undergrad but not anymore after this event of rudeness and...
