I hate having to write these reviews, but I really think it’s important. I was sick for days when I came in here on Sunday after a persistent fever, with symptoms of sepsis. My fever was 105 that morning so I decided after 4 days of a fever I’m going I am going to go to the hospital and get checked out. I came in here around 11:30am and they got me back pretty quickly for vitals, and eventually got me into a room pretty fast. They did do bloodwork quickly, and some other tests to try and pinpoint what exactly was going on, including swabbing me again when I told them I was negative 4 days prior. I am also pregnant and there were concerns with that, and the OB that saw me ordered an x-ray because of my cough, and I am very grateful for her and her suggestion. Otherwise I don’t think they would have did any scans. Fast forward, it came back that I had a nasty case of pneumonia, so they started treating me for that, and giving me all kinds of antibiotics and different medications, they were also getting me admitted. I ended up getting moved to another room in the ED, which is where it fell apart, they wanted to put me on a cardiac monitor because despite me saying that my heart rate was high, they didn’t really do anything until I was there for a while. One of the PCA’s took my vitals and my heart rate was in the 130’s just sitting in the bed. Eventually I saw another doctor later in the evening that was concerned about my X-rays, and wanted me to get a CT so they can get a more thorough look, they went ahead and preformed the CT and brought me back. My CT revealed that I had some fluid around my heart, in my lungs, an enlarged spleen and scoliosis. Only thing mentioned to me in the results was a little bit of fluid in my lungs, and the pneumonia itself. Once shift change rolled around, I did not see a nurse hardly at all. I had horrible diarrhea, which resulted in me using the public restroom around 10 times + that night. I had to have a nurse that was in orientation unhook me from my IV around 10:30, and she unhooked it wrong, which made blood come out of the iv catheter/tubing onto me and on my blankets, but nobody came back to hook me back up even when I called to ask them. I even called once to ask for help so I could use the restroom, I was told someone would come in to help me, nobody came. My $20 worth of Panera that I had to wait 3 hours for doctors orders for also went to waste, and I asked someone to heat it for me which they also didn’t do. I was having stomach cramps, and pain, plus the diarrhea so severe I could not sleep the entire night. Between 11-4am I did not see a single nurse. I get they’re busy, but your patients matter, they all do. Fast forward to morning, I saw the OB again and I told her I hadn’t seen anyone and I wasn’t really being taken care of, which she must have said something because after she left the room they finally come in the room with my antibiotics and fluids, and finally got medicine for the stomach pain. I was supposed to have fluids running all night, but I didn’t. Eventually I saw another doctor that didn’t understand a word that I was saying and thought I was asking for pain meds (I wasn’t), I just wanted something for the diarrhea, and stomach cramps. She was the only doctor I saw the entire day and she answered a phone call in the room with me, and was in there for a total of 5 minutes. I finally after waiting for over 24 hours got transferred upstairs to floor 7 where I didn’t get to see a doctor till the following day, and first words out of his mouth were “how about we get you out of here today?” And to be fair, I was fine with that because I was over it. I engaged him about my CT results which he said was nothing, and that my fluid around my heart was small, and not a big deal, and the spleen enlargement could be anything. I feel like they treat me like I’m an idiot, when I have a family of medical health workers, and even know quite a bit myself. I’m overall really disappointed. Makayla on day shift in the ED...
Read moreThis rating is for labor & delivery and the postpartum unit....and triage. Everything related to childbirth. I delivered in January and will never deliver there or maybe nowhere ever again because of such a terrible experience. I felt like the nurses were just herding women through like cattle with little to no care or empathy. Triage told me my water broke at 34 weeks when it hadn't and nearly started pitocin I went in with side pain which was repeatedly ignored and I was sent home with no reassurance or answers. I had to figure out for myself that I had a uti and call my OB and beg for medicine. I started having hypertension (I think from all of the stress) and ended up being induced at 37 weeks. My birthing experience was a nightmare. When we arrived, we waited for 20 minutes outside of L&D holding bags and standing on my feet because nobody would answer the door. The first nurse was knowledgeable and experienced, I wish I could remember her name and wish we would've had her the whole time. When it came time for the epidural, the nurse administering it put it in too far to the right causing me to have a lot of pain and had to do it again correctly. During my birth experience, we had four different nurses in a 24 hour time period. One of which was called in and made it very apparent that she didn't want to be there. My husband was ignored during the entire process and everyone acted like he wasn't even there. The nurses talked amongst themselves loud enough that we could hear them about concerning things like the baby's heart rate being too high and me having an infection. I tried to ask questions but they didn't give me any reassurance. I was told I was ready to push (and felt ready) around 10pm but my doctor scheduled SEVEN inductions for the same day and her presence and attentiveness was severely lacking. I got an infection from my water being broke too long and at one point my doctor told me "I think he will fit". She told me I was having an emergency but another patient had a bigger emergency and needed a c section and I needed to decide if I wanted a c section or for her to suck the baby out (which also could cause brain damage). It was at least an hour and a half before she returned after having that conversation. I ended up pushing him out but his head was severely swollen and the doctor said he had the biggest head she's ever delivered. I don't say that braggingly but that the doctor and nurses were negligent. After not being able to eat for over 24 hours, I was brought water and crackers. It took hours to go to postpartum and then after getting settled and finally having time to order breakfast, you have to wait two hours for the meal to be delivered. My husband got food poisoning from the breakfast and started throwing up. My first trip to the bathroom AS A FIRST TIME MOM, the nurse pointed to the bathroom and said everything you need is in there. I had to ask her to show me what to do and to help me since I could barely walk and my husband was sick. She acted like it was a pain to help. Throughout our stay, the room felt depressing and I felt I cared for. The least somebody could have done was to check to see if I was eating and drinking enough. We were under the impression that our baby would be in our room at all times except for the circumsision. This is far from the truth. I also needed help with breastfeeding and it was over 24 hours before I actually had somebody helpful to work with me. The first lactation consultant scolded me that I was doing it wrong but wouldn't help me with any techniques. There was a pump in the room but I didn't quite know how to use it or how much to use it and I didn't receive any help with that either even when asking. I was in tears so much during our stay at the hospital and it was a launching pad for my postpartum anxiety and depression. This is just a little bit of my experience there but I would never step foot in this...
Read moreWhere do I even begin! We have in the past had good experiences at Riverside in the past but this was very far from the case this time around. My 76-year-old mom had shoulder replacement surgery at another surgical facility and went into heart failure. We chose to send her to Riverside as this is where her cardiologist is out of. MISTAKE! First, she had other serious health issues that were not ignored by the doctors while she was there. Even though we kept telling them that she needed these medications to ensure that she did not lose any more of her eye sight. Needless to say, she did not get most of her medications for this condition. Second, she was in pain after having a new shoulder put in and asked for one of her Tylenol 3 with codeine. They gave her one but, when her pain increased to a level of 10 she asked for her other pain pill. She was told by the nurse that she only gets one! The nurse did not look for a solution for my mother’s pain by either talking to the doctor, if she had she would have been told by the doctor that she can have 2 every 6 hours! She also did not offer other options, like over the counter Tylenol. So yes, my 76-year-old mother had to sit and suffer with excruciating pain because the nurse did not read her chart or search for a method of relief for my mother. Increased pain for someone who is having heart failure is always the best thing! Sorry sarcastic comment! The next morning when I learned this I spoke to the nurse in charge and she told me that it was written as one pill. I said I know that is not the case because we have the paperwork from the surgical center stating that she can have 2 every 6 hours as needed. She came back a little while later to say that she had to read down farther to find where it stated that she could have 2. By the way no apology for this either. It did not stop there however. Next, enter the social worker who tried to force my mother to go to a rehab facility. We had already planned before her surgery for her rehabilitation to happen at the assisted living facility where she lives. This woman walked in and told my mother that she would be going to a rehab facility. My mom told her that was not the case we had already made arrangements. Mom told her that she needed to speak with me or the nurse Valerie at the assisted living facility. Instead of talking to me, I was in the hallway, she called the Valarie and insisted that mom could not return to her home. Valarie in a panic, calls me to tell me that mom can’t come back. I explained the situation that the head of the facility, her doctor and I had already worked out a plan for the physical and occupational therapists to come to her. Valarie told me that the social worker was insistent that it was impossible for her to return. After we talked we determined that she did not know what she was talking about. Valarie called the social worker back and explained what we had talked about and at that the social worker said that she did not read mom’s entire chart and did see that she had therapy coming to her. Valarie said to her, you almost made me refuse to accept back a residence because you neglected to ready her entire chart! Social worker told her it was a mistake. Valarie told her she needed to start doing her job! Social worker rears her head again the day that mom is finally released telling mom that she must take an ambulance back to the assisted living facility! She never talked to us about this just scheduled the ambulance and told us it was coming to get her! We together declined the ambulance but they kept coming back to her room to tell us the ambulance was coming to get her. If you go there Keep this in mind, you need to fight for what you know is right and be an advocate for yourself and...
