Xanadu Skate Center — Attraction in Columbus

I am highly unimpressed by the policies, cashier, and manager at the Xanadu Skate Center in Columbus, GA.

I brought my 7 year old daughter and her friend to this facility to skate. My other two daughters rode with me, so we could catch up before my oldest left for college. I expected to have a relaxing evening supervising the younger ones while chatting with the older ones. I was informed of the skate center’s ridiculous policy to pay for adults to watch their children while skating. When I raised my safety concerns, the cashier was quick to point out that it is skate at your own risk. I explained to her that I wasn’t interested in liability. Instead my focus was solely on safety ranging from injury to kidnapping. She looked at me stupidly and told me that I’d have to take my chances.

I then requested her advisor. When she arrived, her blank stare and inability to address my concerns reiterated why it was inappropriate for her to be a supervisor and in a decision making role. She could not answer my questions nor did she try.

Since paying fees to watch these kids, I have watched the 5 guys who appear to be in charge of the skating rink area laying on the floor, playing on their phones, dancing/spinning in a group in the center, etc. The only activity that I have not witnessed is their attempt to watch the other skaters.

I have also watched one reckless skater constantly cutting off others causing several to fall without ever being addressed.

It is highly irresponsible for this business to charge me to supervise my own children. If the business could ensure that someone was personally keeping an eye on these children, then I wouldn’t be so upset. However, the lack of regard for the safety of its patrons is...

I used to really enjoy bringing my daughter skating here. Not any more. Brought her today (July 10, 2021) and they now charge a $4 spectator fee. $4 on to supervise her skating! I was told they started it within the last 3 weeks. I understand that they might be trying to cut down on people coming to just hang out at the rink and while I can appreciate that it seems like for parents they could make exceptions. You require that skaters under the age of 17 be accompanied by an adult… the least you can do is make an exception for the parents. On top of that the last two time we have been here I have been extremely disappointed in the lack of supervision with most of the rink guards. Today they have a ton of staff (4 sitting on the rental bar talking as I type this and none on the floor). Skaters are going the opposite direction, sitting on the rink talking, standing and blocking the flow, and they have had a pretty good crash but the 4 employees are still sitting on the counter just talking. When a rink guard does get on they seem to spend their time racing and playing around instead of doing their job and looking after the skaters on the floor. There are a ton of small kids here at the moment.

This is dangerous. Im thankful I never leave my daughter at the rink alone. I’m glad I’m here to watch out for her… Clearly you aren’t! Management change this…. Properly teach your rink guards and staff. They need to be more focused on their jobs and less focused on...

BEWARE: I’ll begin with the Filth of the skates conditions. WEAR 2 layers of socks. If you choose to pay and skate. Skates are outdated, safety breaks are worn, the grimy film on the shoe laces and the insoles of skates is an invitation for someone to get a bad bacterial infection or a severe foot fungus. DISGUSTING. Protect yourself and your children. I’m surprise this place has not been reported to the Health Bureau or BBB. The rink is very worn, cracks on a few parts and uneven areas. Prone for a very bad incident. Bathroom conditions, sad. With what I saw. Had little desire to purchase any snacks. As for the customer service from the ladies. Coaching, training very much needed. Kids with no people skills. Seems employees have no desire to be there. DJ for the most part, friendly and entertaining. Just about the only person with an up beat attitude that keeps the customers to stay. Sadly, I will not return.
