Chateau de Mores State Historic Site — Attraction in Belfield

What a fantastic experience to be able to step back in time to the 1880s and visit the Marquis and Madame De Mores! The estate has been beautifully restored with a lot of the artifacts still pristine. This is a must do for anyone in the area whether you're interested in history or not. I had no idea this much history was here in ND!

Very cool historic home to tour that teaches you a lot about the history of Medora and its founding family. I love touring historic homes and this one was unique to me, because it was a blend of upper class mansion and western farmstead. A good portion of the furnishings are original to the home which was great to see. Exploring the Chateau and visitor center is really quiet entertaining, as well as informative. Learning about the origins of Medora, both initial success, and then disasters which followed, is fascinating. The experience also provides some insight into the servant - nobility complexities of the past. Young children may find the experience a little slow, however, families in general should find it very interesting.
