As Wyndham Rewards Members, we often stay at their affiliate hotels. We do not usually select AmericInn's ... but this time, it was one of the few hotels available (and affordable) in Medora, North Dakota.||I received a text message for online check-in, so I took a few minutes and entered my information, card numbers, vehicle plates, etc. I also added a quick request for an upgrade, and to my surprise, one of the desk staff responded to my text ... letting me know that I had already been upgraded at no extra charge. I have never had that happen before, so this positive customer service was well received.||Upon arrival to the hotel, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the lobby, swimming area, and other facility rooms. Two young ladies were working the desk ... friendly and willing to help. My only constructive feedback is that the hotel does not give gift bags to their guests, unless the individual is a Diamond Level Rewards Member. This was also a first ... as Platinum Rewards Members also typically get some water and snacks free of charge.||The room was nice ... but it did not have any pillows or blankets for the queen-sized couch bed. I called down to the desk and requested them, and I was asked to come down to pick them up. Considering we stayed in Room #201, literally right up the stairs from the front desk, I was surprised that I had to come downstairs ... considering that it was quiet in the lobby and somewhat late at night. Oh well ...||Overall, it was a fine hotel ... very nice and affordable. However, if I ever go back to Medora, my family will likely stay at one of the more historic hotels downtown ... closer to the stores, dining...
Read moreLet's start with pros. Pro 1, the room was clean and renovated. Pro 2, they have firm pillows for us who like firm pillows. Pro 3, the views are spectacular from your room. Pro 4, the breakfast was pretty decent, it had a wide selection of different options. Pro 5, most 2 floor hotels don't have elevators but this one does. Those were the pros now moving on to the cons. Con 1, the price is HIGH, almost spent $250 the night for here. Even if it's in a national park, I still felt like I was being ripped off. Con 2 the building layout is confusing. When I came in, it looked like the place was in a L shape but was rather in a T shape. Walking from the lobby to the hotel room was a mess trying to find my room. The numbers continued in order going north until it cut off at room 1/230 or something which I had to go back to the south wing where my room was. Most hotels organized even and odd number rooms one side of the hall to another but this hotel didn't bother with that. Con 3, the location is next to a train track and a trailer park with rednecks reving their trucks all night. Front desk staff is both a pro and con. The Front desk staff here seems to be responsible for doing laundry as well. They left a sign to ring bell for service. The front desk agent was friendly but didn't have a uniform or appropriate attire on. Not to mention, he said out my room number outloud for everyone to hear. I work front desk as well and by rule, you are not aloud to read out guest room number unless requested due to security reasons. It's a decent place but not really worth the value. There's better choices in Dickinson which is...
Read moreCannot recommend. I hesitate to write review because I see whenever a customer provides feedback that the GM does not like the GM writes a shaming/scolding/condescending reply. Totally opposite of one of Medora’s core values re: providing exceptional customer service! But - here goes. ( If the GM writes a condescending reply it just validates my concern that AmericInn in Medora simply doesn’t care about customer feedback as they allow the GM to scoff any negative feedback. The GM should be fired.)
Thankfully ww did not ever see the GM and all the staff we were in contact with were excellent and kind. Pool area was nice. However VERY poor value for the very very high cost of the rooms. At $300 a night it’s clear price gouging is occurring. We have stayed at many AmericInns that had far nicer rooms that cost 1/3 of the Medora location. For that cost we expected exceptional rooms. Instead all 3 rooms we booked smelled so bad we could hardly stand it. A moldy humid damp smell. The air conditioning units were terrible and loud. The controls would not light up and staff said they just don’t at times. Supposedly the units are new but clearly not the case. If they are new they must have been low quality purchase. Walls were scarred and dinged up and the high humidity in the rooms and bathrooms etc unacceptable. The bathroom had some sort of vent but zero air exchange. These rooms are maybe 1 star quality Highly suggest you book other hotel in Medora. The Roughrider is actually less expensive yet...
