A local favorite for walking, picture-taking, and just hanging out. The house isn't open during the Winter months, however most of their visitors come during the other warmer months. It's also right next to Pratt Park so you could just park there and walk over to the house or vice versa. It's a beautiful location with well-kept grounds (disregarding the recent destruction from the winter storm a couple weeks ago), and also a great spot to look out over Fredericksburg City. The bathrooms were open when I visited even though the house was closed and they looked well-kept so that's another plus! A must-see if you're visiting the Fredericksburg area.

Chatham Manor is one of the most beautiful scenic places in Fredericksburg. The house and grounds are lovely and well kept, and the view of the city is completely unmatched. I first came here for a drawing class to walk the grounds and sketch different sculptures and scenes for Germanna many years ago. More recently, I brought my nieces and nephew here with cameras to capture the gorgeous Ginkgo tree in all it's bright yellow glory against the beautiful backdrop of the city of Fredericksburg. Gorgeous place for a stroll in the woods, a visit to the gardens, or family photos under a beautiful historic tree.

Chatham Manor on Stafford Heights was a Plantation built in 1771. This house has received an impressive list of guests including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Dwight D Eisenhower, Clara Barton, Walt Whitman, and George C Marshall. President Lincoln and Secretary of State Edwin Stanton dined here with about a dozen high ranking Union Officers. The house also served as both a Union Headquarters and Hospital. It's now a part of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Battlefield Memorial National Military Park. The personnel working here are very helpful and knowledgeable.

One of the nicest portions of the Fredericksburg National Battlefield Park, Chatham Manor offers a film about the history of the house, beautiful views overlooking Historic Fredericksburg and a garden dating to the early 20th century that always has something in bloom, but is particularly beautiful in the Spring. There is a picnic area or you can bring blankets and enjoy the lawn and river view. There is a small fee for the movie and visiting the house. The grounds and parking are free.

This is a super pretty spot. Everything from the grounds filled with gorgeous sculptures, beautiful flowers, and cool views of downtown, to the historic house makes this a cool destination. I suggest bringing dinner or dessert and watching the sun set over downtown, or having a photoshoot with some flowers (although professional photographers need a permit) Entrance to the grounds and house are free. There’s also picnic tables on site, and a trail that leads to Pratt Park.

Free to visit and beautiful. The grounds are large with well kept gardens. The manor itself was beautiful and was a glimpse into the past. The historical placards were informative and it took us about 1-1.5 hours to see everything at a leisurely pace. The drive out is in need of repair due to washout, so drive carefully. If you have a large vehicle you should definitely take the alternate bus route out as the exit Is also very narrow. Definitely worth a visit!
