The Richard Johnston Inn is one of the sweetest little spots you could choose. The inn’s main entrance is on a main street in the heart of Fredericksburg’s Historic District. You pull up to the front and it feels like you’re stepping back in time. It’s warm and welcoming, beautifully decorated, and well appointed. We stayed in a room off the courtyard, Isabella’s Suite, which is located on the back side of the inn. We could not have asked for better lodging. It was the perfect place to stay. Having our own entrance off the courtyard was the icing on the cake. We relaxed in the courtyard in the evenings on the Adirondack chairs that had greeted us when we arrived. The innkeeper, Liz, and the staff were welcoming, accommodating, and downright likable. Breakfast was creative and varied each morning. In the dining room, a coffee station was set up for guests to help themselves during the day. A freshly baked treat appeared in the afternoon. My husband has never been inclined to want to return to a place we’ve been, preferring to go to different places. Until now. Between the Richard Johnston Inn, the history of Fredericksburg and the surrounding area, the locale, and the choice of things to do, we will be back. Thank you for being part of a memorable trip. Tom &...

We wanted to love this place but we found ourselves irritated by lots of little things. Very cute rooms to look at but too much nic-nac stuff leaving no place for my stuff. I kept moving things out of the way. The cheap shower curtain liner kept wrapping around my body making showering a chore. No water in the Keurig coffee maker on day 3 and no where to fill it myself or by the other couple except hold it under the bathtub tap, which we weren’t gonna do. The staff doesn’t show up for work until 8am so us ‘early risers’ did without. Food was just okay. Not amazing, but seasoned well. It was fine. Had to pay $1 for each bottled water. Guess I could have used that to pour into the Keurig. Coffee is pretty important. Ought to have it brewed up and ready to go. Anyway, the worst thing was the, I assume, kid's racing their trucks, cars and motorcycles down the street over and over again. We nearly called the police. Why in the world is that allowed to go on in this quaint, historical town?! Ear plugs were provided in the room! That was our first clue to what to expect. It’s not R. Johnson’s B&B fault but it is going on every night. In summary, cute place, food was decent, close to train station but we won’t stay there a...

3.5 stars only because the breakfast food was not at all what we expected for a B&B! The house was stunning and our room was very pleasant. We stayed at the Sawyer Scott room at the 1890 Caroline House. It had a beautiful clawfoot tub that was wonderful to soak in. The house was right on the Fredericksburg strip. We did hear some street noice from our room but that did not bother us. The inn keeper was very helpful as well. We requested a later breakfast time on the first day to sleep in a little on the first morning. What we didn’t realize was that the breakfast is not made fresh at that house. It is made at the Richard Johnston house and then transported over. So the food was just sitting there for us and was not even warm. We were served egg frittata on the first day. The next morning we had breakfast the original time. Still barely warm and it was a very sweet dish loaded with sugar. We have been to B&Bs before and the food is normally farm to table, extremely fresh, healthy, etc. So this was a surprise. Stay for the location and the beautiful rooms but not for the breakfast. Would recommend having 2 chefs to accommodate the separate houses so breakfast is...

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! This is truly a gem of a bed and breakfast, and located so close to all the best things in downtown Fredericksburg! We stayed in the loft, and the room was comfortable with plenty of space. I love that they had decorated for Easter and St. Patrick's Day throughout the inn. We opted to get chocolate-dipped fruit, and it was the perfect refreshing snack after traveling! Liz is so personable and warm - she had the best recommendations for local food options and was so accommodating of our requests. Breakfast was outstanding! Peach French toast bake with sausage, sweet potatoes, and apples on the side the first day, and an egg/veggie dish with potatoes, toast, and sausage the second day. Both breakfasts also had fruit and yogurt parfait, scones, and every breakfast beverage I could think of. The parking was easy to find, and the location of the inn is so perfect that we were able to walk to pretty much everything (even in heels!). I truly am looking forward to coming back to stay again!

This charming B&B conveniently located in historic downtown Fredericksburg, VA has many dining, shopping and site seeing options within walking distance. There’s a splash pad and par core jr. course in the park across the street from this B&B’s beautifully decorated and shaded patio. This park has beautiful views of the Rappahannock River. Across the street from the Inn’s front door there is a visitor center run by a knowledgeable staff with some fun scavenger hunt options (we enjoyed the interactive river otter hunt). Every morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared at the Inn by an incredible staff. Each staff member is helpful, respectful and eager to help visitors tailor a Fredericksburg experience. We are looking forward to another visit to The Richard Johnston Inn to enjoy this vibrant city.
