So I came to the town of Fredericksburg with my girlfriend to spend Christmas with her family, and being a Yelp Elite, I had to find a hot local spot to eat at. So, at the recommendation of her brother, we came here. The place is in a building that used to be a bank like 100 years ago. It's so regal and stoic on the outside. It's beautiful. And on the inside, there's a kool bar and an old bank vault that is three feet thick and still on its giant hinges. There's rustic Virginia artwork on the wall, too. It's just so kool. It's got a real good vibe to it. See the pictures to see what I'm talking about. So we get in and get seated IN the bank vault. It was a really secluded little area with only four tables in there. I enjoyed it. There were even little safe deposit boxes and safe-in-the-wall decor in there, either remnants of the past or on purpose placement. Either way, I liked it. We decided to get a little appetizer, two of the Pimento Cheese Toasts. They were $1.50 each, and both had a wonderful cheese bomb with that pimento flavor that you only find in the South. The baguette they were served on was a little thick, but it was crisp all the way through and a good vessel for the cheese. Nice little bite. We then each ordered an entree. I had the Rosie's Fried Chicken Sandwich and my girlfriend had the Frederickburger. My sandwich was really good. The chicken was juicy and crisp. There are homemade pickles on there that added a good pick flavor. There was mayo on there that was eh. I thought it was a solid dish at a solid price. Also, I had fries on my plate that were seasoned with Old Bay, and I was really happy about it. They went perfectly with the chicken sandwich. My girlfriend's Frederickburger was way better, though. Cooked to a perfect medium rare with a hand-formed patty. Very juicy. Very well seasoned. There were toppings, too, but very few. The burger shined here in a dish that was way better than mine. She also had parmesan herb fries, which were different than my fries. I like that little touch here. For dessert, we had milk and cookies. They were served with warm plates and they were so ooey and gooey that you couldn't touch the chocolate chips without getting chocolate all over your fingers. Good problems to have. Overall, the food was dynamite, and the price was also dynamite. I loved being inside this building, and I loved eating the food inside of it. I will be back.

Something Local, something new, something tasty. Being new to the area ( 4 months old to be exact ). This place , which probably locals know, that this use to be a bank for forever, 2 banks to be exact. The owner took an opportunity and just switched to this place . It paid off not just because of its uniqueness of the place but how everything was set up. The vault door is still intact, and a more intimate room in my opinion. I went their for brunch, but there are usually three services, which are breakfast , brunch , and dinner service. I will be posting the other menus, since I have not tried them yet. I had three course to try. The food in my opinion needs salt, and moisture. I had the chicken and waffles. The waffles was a little dense, it needed some kind of moisture in the batter to make it crispy on the outside, and moist in the inside. The chicken was the breast part. it was seasoned very well. So much flavor. Their syrup had a hint of rosemary that didn’t overpowered the sweetness of the sauce. Eating it together , makes it one cohesive dish. I also had a few bites of their cuban, which is their special. It lacked a hair of salt , and the egg was a little over cooked. If the egg was cooked perfectly, the yolk could have oozed out and gave so much flavor to the sandwich. Their dessert was very delicious. My favorite meal in my visit. It wasn’t overly sweet, and the chocolate was spot on. It was very moist and melts in your mouth feeling. Overall , I recommend this place, my waitress Emily was amazing with her customer service and that’s one of the reasons I would come back!! woohoo!!

My mother and I stopped at Foode for a drink and an appetizer Saturday. The service was fine, we were seated quickly and our waiter was nice. We each ordered cocktails and they did not disappoint - beautifully crafted and they both tasted amazing. We shared the large charcuterie board to share, which came with 3 different types of meat, three cheeses, pickled squash, a small cranberry dish, and grapes. The pimento cheese was fine, nothing to write home about. Blue cheese was.. blue cheese. If you're into it, you'll like it. The two surprising flavors were the pickled squash (and maybe some pickled carrot, not too sure) was a delightful addition as well as the heavily spiced, smokey meat. As we dug in with the small amount of bread (for a large board) we picked at the grapes, which we noticed were rotting. Some looked fine, but were on the same vine of rotting, grey filmed grapes. We put them off to the side and tried to ignore it until my mother tried to get a bit of pimento on her limited bread, and there was a grab buried beneath the pimento cheese. We stopped then, a bit grossed out. (The secret pimento grape is featured vaguely in the 2nd pic, toward the back.) The thing is, not only did whoever put this board together have to see this. So must have the host (not the waiter, one of the hosts dropped off the board and made a comment about trying to keep the loose grapes on the board) as well as the waiter when they checked in on us after 15 minutes or so. But ultimately, whoever threw this together in the kitchen is at fault. My mother told the waitress and foode took off $4 from the bill, which we appreciated, I guess. It probably doesn't seem like much to most, but it's the details that matter. When small details are missed, even something as small as rotting grapes, I question what else is being missed. I've heard great things about Foode and I want to focus on their amazing drinks, but all I can think about is grapes.

I expected that this would be an excellent review, but we were disappointed by our visit to Foode. In concept, a farm fresh to restaurant is a great idea, but that requires that the food be cooked properly and the prices reasonable. In the case of Foode, the food was not cooked properly and the prices were high. I had the pork tenderloin. The pork was overcooked and the green beans were almost not cooked. A friend had a steak. The steak was nearly raw. The pork was dry, tough, and tasteless. The green beans were so farm fresh that they apparently forgot to cook them. The shrimp with grits that included sausage had almost no sausage and was just blah. We asked to make a couple changes to our order, but were told that was impossible for the cooks. A friend who visited Foode said that the salad was just slab of lettuce. The service was generally good, despite the constant up-selling. Unfortunately, they never asked if I needed more water. Nevertheless, the staff was friendly and allowed us to chat for an extended time. The tastiest item on the menu was a small portion of cornbread, freshly baked, with a dollop of butter. The cornbread didn't come with your meal, it's a $3.50 extra. In all, the bill for two people who had water and no other drink was $81. The price would have been acceptable had the food been cooked properly. To summarize, Foode has good potential but the overpriced, poorly cooked, food made for a great disappointment.

This place has a ton of potential but I think our timing was a bit off. We were driving back from Gettysburg to North Carolina and we decided to break up the journey with a snack and adult beverage. We arrived at 4, which is a slightly awkward time. They were open, but seemed unprepared for guests. Other than two employees who were ending their shift with a drink at the bar, we were the only ones in the restaurant. I popped into the restroom and my companion ordered a drink. Once I came back, we listened to the employees talk... and talk and talk... Finally after 10 minutes, they said their goodbyes and the bartender began to make my friend's drink. Then she yelled from the well at the other side of the bar, "Did she decide what she wants?" To not address me directly after ignoring us for 10 minutes was simply unprofessional. Honestly, we were going to order food but figured that was a sign we should cut our loses. We were obviously an inconvenience and figured there were other places in Old Town that would be happy to serve us. The next time we're in town we might try again & just not sit at the bar. Other things to Note: The decor is fabulous and the host or manager who greeted us at the start was fantastic.

For such a high rating, it was surprisingly underseasoned. The space was comfortable, but felt like they were trying too hard to be something they can't with the average kitchen staff. The constantly rotating menu might be too much considering how ordinary all everything we got turned out. In addition to the two dishes below, the shrimp and grits were bland. It just seems like such a simple set of southern dishes shouldn't be too hard for such a highly acclaimed location. That being said, the service was very friendly. I will note that one member of our party was wearing cargo shorts, flip flops, and a bright yellow t shirt. We got seated at the very back of the restaurant while there was still plenty of seating at the front. To be honest, if it were my place, I would have done the same. I say this to warn others not to dress like a slob when coming to this restaurant. Overall, not a terrible experience, but definitely room for improvement. Bottom line: the vision is there, but the kitchen just isn't delivering. Don't expect to be blown away.
