Poorly thought out layout. HORRIBLE inept trainers. Crowded and low energy gym.

The free weight section is tiny and shoved in a small wall in front of the dumbbells, so it's always overcrowded.

The cardio equipment should be in the middle of the gym since it doesn't require a wall, but instead the genius who made the floor plan put those stations up against a wall, facing away from the wall. They could easily run electricity down the support pillars to the cardio equipment, and place that in the large open gap in the middle of the gym. Remember, this space used to be a Winn-Dixie, which had run electricity EVERYWHERE.

That space by the wall should be allocated better for more benches, a shoulder press, a squat rack, and a mirrors. Theere are only a total of two barbell bench press stations for this huge gym. what happens when more than 3 people are doing chest during any given time?

There's only one proper squat rack for non-peak members. Only One proper leg extension machine and one leg curl station in the entire gym.

They placed weight a plate storage rack and chest dip station in front of mirrors where people could be working out instead. Again, no thought, seems like the person(s) who laid out the place didn't actually think about the needs of the members.

As i said before; Existing Freeweight space is tiny and overcrowded most of the time, this rearrangement would allow more people to workout without bumping into each other as we do now.

So much wrong with the setup of the gym I noticed has made more than a handful of people switch to LA Fitness or Pivotal Fitness.

On To The Staff: Constant turnover, but at least they're friendly.

The trainers however are terrible. For the heck of it, I had a session with the thin male trainer with glasses (i wont put his name on here) and i knew within 15 minutes he's completely inept and in over his head.

He was showing me how to do exercises, but with bad form which could end up injuring me. He didn't know which exercises were for what muscle groups, he had me occupy multiple workout stations at a time, which i could see was irritating other (paying) members of the gym (it is rude).

He just has no idea what he's doing, day after day i see him "training" these people and he's really doing them a disservice, it's the 'blind leading the blind' , if you will.

The fact that he isn't fit exemplifies that he cannot train anyone, including himself to be physically fit.

The other trainers are no better, i was certified as a fitness trainer for YEARS and I've never seen such ineptitude, and lack of knowledge, lack of personal fitness and lack of pride-in-work in a group of trainers.

That's why i thought it was bizarre when i saw they are kicking out members who ARE certified . People who have a certification cannot workout at your gym? interesting.

The worst part of this gym is the clientele. My workout buddy deemed it a "minimum wage gym", not the nicest way to put it. Basically members pay somewhere around $10-$20 dollars a month for a membership. Very inexpensive.

If yore paying so little for a membership you'll get what you pay for, most of the people who frequent this place are classless, clueless, loud, rude, and have no couth. I'd rather Crunch charge members a little more each month and let the price get rid of the riff-raff.

Also, most members, you'll notice are just sitting around on their cell phones. The management needs to do something about this because I often have to politely ask other members if i can use the equipment the're sitting and texting/playing candy crush on.

One more thing, they don't play the music loud enough to actually hear over other people chatting and they only play infomercials on the TVs.

it's just the weirdest, least motivational gym I've ever gone to in my life. Period.

I hope that the management reads this and makes considerations which will hopefully help...

UPDATED June, 27, 2025

After posting this review, I finally received a response—not an apology or accountability for how I was treated by staff, but a letter from the General Manager informing me that my membership has been terminated.

It’s unfortunate, but not surprising: At Crunch Oakland Park, it seems staff can be dismissive, unprofessional, and even refuse to provide their name—but if a paying member gets frustrated after being ignored for over a month, they’re the problem.

I was told my behavior was inappropriate after voicing concerns that had been brushed off for months, and I was penalized while, TY the Manager, who escalated the situation faces no consequence. It sends a clear message: if you question leadership or advocate for better equipment, you risk losing your membership instead of receiving support.

In the manager’s letter, it was stated that they ā€œattempted to reach out.ā€ For the record: I never received a phone call, and the email I sent to the General Manager on June 5 regarding the damaged boxing bags was never responded to. If I ignored a client’s email for a month, I likely wouldn’t have a job—but apparently that level of follow-through is acceptable at this gym.

It’s also worth noting that 4 of the 6 most recent reviews for this location are 1-star. That’s not a coincidence—that’s a pattern. And it points to a broader issue with how this gym handles feedback, accountability, and member experience.

I stand by everything in my original review. If you’re thinking about joining, pay close attention not just to the equipment—but to how this gym responds when things go wrong.

Original Review: I’ve been a member at Crunch Oakland Park for over a year, and it’s disappointing to see how far this gym has declined—especially if you joined for boxing bags, like I did.

When I signed up, I was told new boxing bags would be ordered soon because most were in poor condition. One year later, the only decent bag is now unusable—lying on the floor with torn straps. The other two are barely filled and improperly hung, making boxing workouts nearly impossible.

I’ve asked staff multiple times about replacements, and finally got an email to contact the GM, Jay. I sent a message on June 5th and never received a reply.

But the worst experience came on June 19th. I politely asked the manager on duty—TY—if there were any updates. His response? ā€œGo away! I am not talking to you about this.ā€ I asked again, and he repeated ā€œGo away!ā€ multiple times, saying, ā€œThey’ll be replaced when they get replaced,ā€ and claimed he had a migraine.

When I asked for his name, he refused to give it and actively signaled other staff not to tell me. Frustrated, I left—and admittedly, I lost my cool and cursed on the way out. I later learned from another staff member outside (who wasn’t present during the interaction) that his name is TY. I plan to apologize to the team for my outburst, but I doubt TY will do the same.

It’s unfortunate because this used to be a solid gym. But until there’s a shift in leadership responsiveness and basic member respect, I can’t recommend Crunch Oakland Park. If I receive a reply or apology, I’ll update this review—but for now, it’s a clear...

I had a frustrating and disappointing experience with Crunch Fitness Oakland Park regarding the cancellation of my membership and a refund that is still owed to me. I submitted my cancellation request via email on January 27, 2025. Despite multiple follow-ups, my membership was not officially canceled for months—and as of today, it still has not been properly resolved. On August 27, 2025, I received written confirmation that my membership had been canceled and that a refund would be processed within 7–10 business days, acknowledging my original cancellation request from January. As of September 16, 2025—over 15 business days later—I have yet to receive the refund or any further communication. The delays and lack of customer service are unacceptable. I sincerely hope Crunch Fitness takes steps to improve its billing and cancellation processes to prevent others from going through the same ordeal. Update as of September 17, 2025: Crunch management has failed to acknowledge multiple follow-up emails regarding my membership cancellation. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to reach someone by phone (which is a challenge in itself), I finally got in touch with a team member named Stephanie. She informed me that she was now canceling my membership—despite the fact that I had already been told it was canceled twice before, once in January and again in August 2025. I’m now being told once again to wait 7–10 business days for a refund, even though Crunch has been charging me for the past nine months, including an annual membership fee for a gym I haven’t stepped foot in since December 2024. I’m sharing this to highlight the legitimate issues and frustrating process involved in trying to cancel a membership with Crunch Fitness. The lack of accountability and transparency is deeply concerning. I have also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding their practices. Hopefully, this review helps others who may be dealing with a similar situation.

EDIT SEPTEMBER 18, 2025

Crunch Oakland Park - Owner, You commented here stating that you take matters like this very seriously and asked that we contact you directly to resolve the issue. I’ve updated my review and included screenshots of all the emails exchanged, showing the dates, the conversations, and the multiple times I requested the cancellation of my membership. Despite this, you and your staff failed to cancel it until September 17, 2025. I urge you to contact me directly to explain how you plan to resolve this — not just for me, but for the many other current and former members who are experiencing similar issues with your club and its...
