So there I was… Staring at an endless pile of Pips that’s lost its magic … wondering what the booze life had left for me. Where do I go from here? As I walked through my local bottle shop full of dusty shelf Great Notion cans that haven't moved since 2019… I asked myself… could this really be the end? I decide to reach out to Daniel Lord for answers. Legend has it he’s been MIA since the NFC championship staring at a Brock Purdy photo. Against all odds, Lord stumbled past a graveyard of crushed Smooj cans and answered the DM. He tells me he has my back, and sends me a package of Culling, Woven Water, Burnt Barrel, J Wake and 8th St. “These will change your life!” he emphasizes. “These are the best in the game!” he pleads. I decide to believe. Maybe this is the answer…
Two days later, as the last bottle of Culling is circling the sink drain, my soul now removed from my body due to the amount of dumpster swill consumed… I decided the end had arrived. When life gives you lemons, just say ‘F the lemons’, and bail.
Months passed by in retirement... watching reruns of Richard Sherman deflecting Kaepernick’s attempt for the game winning INT. A package arrives from a “William McLain”. Never heard of him. I reach out to my buddy Bugs to see if he knows this “William”, no answer. I open it reluctantly expecting a covert Daniel Lord porch disaster, but I find something else… Something new… “Double Pear Vanilla”, Brewlihan Mead Company. I popped the cork and it happened...
I’m back baby!! & Lambic is Back babayy!!!! But for the purpose of this story, I am back*, anyways, you get it. Back to the mead. MAGICAL! HEAVENLY! I wish it were winter so I could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it… and melt it in the spring time and drink it. I decide to board a plane... to someplace warm… A place where the Brewlihan Mead flows like wine… where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano… I’m talking about a little place called Oakland Park, Florida. I walk into Brewlihan Mead Company and I spot Daniel Lord is at the bar trying to sell a Great Notion keg for a guest tap. John passes so you know he has exquisite taste. He hands me a glass of Proper Black with the keys to his Bentley to drive along the coastline later. John is all about customer service. Wonderful Ambience in here. I see Bugs on the end of the bar approximately 3 Liters deep and just warming up. The rest is history. Highly Recommend. Thanks...
Read moreWe have had amazing experiences each time we have been to Brewlihan Mead Company. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious tasting experience. The taproom is an inviting space with a great vibe, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the various meads and session meads they had available to drink on tap and those available to go.
What I love most about Brewlihan Mead Company was the incredible variety of meads available. From traditional meads made with honey and fruit to experimental blends that push the boundaries of what mead can be, they have something for every palate. And their session meads are perfect for those who want something lighter and more drinkable, without sacrificing flavor.
I recommend starting with a flight to find your new favorite mead. The meads are stunningly complex and nuanced, with layers of flavor that are unique and unexpected.
Brewlihan Mead Company is an excellent destination for those looking for something outside of the ordinary. They are a hidden gem in Oakland Park and I can't wait to visit again. So, if you are looking for a tasty, unique, and enjoyable drinking experience, Brewlihan Mead Company is a place...
Read moreI was staying in Miami for the weekend and it happened to be the weekend that they were celebrating their second anniversary. I follow them on social media and saw that they were doing some special releases that weekend. I only arrived into Miami late on Saturday night and so Sunday was the only opportunity that I had to visit. It is a bit of a drive from Miami and as I had limited time in Miami, I wasn't sure if I would make the trip, but I thought that I just go there to pick up a bottle and maybe try one or two of their offerings. Anyway ended up staying for longer than anticipated, due to the friendly service and also the welcoming regulars as well and enjoyed all of the different meads that I tried. They do something called serums as well, but I was there for meads. Although I did have a lager that they had on tap just to quench my thirst. The owner John was there briefly at the start with his partner and they were both very friendly and welcoming, as was Brad serving behind the bar. If I wasn't driving, could easily have just stayed there the whole day. Looking forward to trying the bottles that I bought...
