Look I am not trying to be a Karen but like I bought a PC with them. I was very happy with how well it went and how they were giving me feedback on the build that I made. There was a tiny miscommunication that I wanted 2 SSD's and separately I wanted to buy a harddrive for another computer. They gave me one SSD and one HDD and installed both. Not the end of the world as the miscommunication was my fault 100 percent.
I did not discover the mistake until after I installed windows. I put it on the HDD after checking the size of the drive with out really paying much attention (No sleep and migrane). I realized the error so I took the PC back along with my USB boot drive for Windows 10 for which I HAVE A KEY FOR and can use that to get a free upgrade to Windows 11. I specifically asked that I get the smaller storage SSD to use as the home for windows and to use the provided boot drive explaining I already had a key and I specifically needed them to use windows 10. I was very clear this time sure to avoid any miscommunication.
When I went to pick up the PC they said they had automatically upgraded to windows 10 but didnt use my key so now I either have to go through and redo the work I PAID THEM to do or I have to freaking pay for a new windows key EVEN THOUGH I HAD ONE THAT I COULD USE IF THEY SIMPLY JUST LISTENED TO ME! Not only that but they didnt install on the drive that I asked them to instal on.
I made a simple mistake because I was not physically feeling well and had a severe migrane and sleep deprevation and I got treated like my request could be ignored. I don't blame the technician I blame the guy that took my information and service request for not relaying my wishes accurately. I do not want to go back as I do not feel well, im in so much pain so I guess I am just shelling out more money to get something that I should have been able to get for free... I really feel like they should be the ones paying for it right now but my head hurts too much to push the issue so instead I am just leaving this review.
I do want to say overall this would have been a 5 star review if I only had my wishes about windows instalation respected but I felt like my wishes were completely overridden and they just kinda did what ever they felt like they wanted to with out talking to me about it first. That level of being trampled over and consent violated took what would have been a 5 star review down to a 2 star because that is how important it is to me to be treated like I can make my own decisions.
I do want to say though that the staff was otherwise friendly and helful. the technician felt bad about the situation but I was feeling so crappy that I just told him to forget about it and that I would fix it myself. It's not his fault that he wasnt informed about why I made the request that I did. I just kinda wish he would have like called me and asked before doing the upgrade but he was young and literally did not have malicious intent...
Read more---------------Update 3/14/17-------------- I'm very dissatisfied with the level of customer service I received when trying to get the currently popular Nvidia GeForce 1080 Ti. I saw online that there was 1 in stock so I called to ask if they could hold it for me and I was told that due to it's high demand, it's first come, first serve. So I drove over there immediately but I was too late for that one, which is fine because someone else beat me to it. Then another guy came in asking for that same one that I saw online. Another salesman, I believe he's the manager, said he had one for him and he whisked him off in order to sell it to him; even though I was in line before him! I should have been the one to receive it. I looked at the screen that he had pulled up and it showed qty 2 so I asked my salesman why he didn't know about those2 cards in stock and also if I could have the other one. He told me that they didn't show up for him when he searched so he didn't know about them. When we pulled up the sku, it didn't show anything on the website so it appeared that the other salesman had some sort of insider information that he used to his benefit in order to be the one to get credit for the sale; since I was working with another salesman. My salesman, Drew, was very professional and patient about the whole fiasco and he went to inquire about getting the other one for me. After speaking to the manager, he came back and informed me that it was being held for another customer. I told him that I was told over the phone that it was first come first serve and that they won't hold them. He said that I was correct and that is the policy but that he was informed by his manager that this was a "special circumstance". The whole thing really infuriated me because a store shouldn't cherry pick their policy and I should have been entitled to either one of those cards because I was next in line and I was there in person on a first come first serve basis policy. I've spent thousands at MicrCenter and I love the store but this experience really left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me reluctant to buy from them in the future.
Sure, Micro Center isn't perfect, but it's still amazing and I want it to continue to exist so I support it! It could be cleaner, more organized, have faster checkout and return service, but it has the best deals on computer parts and most of the employees actually know what they're talking about! They have the best prices for Intel processors anywhere, even when compared online, and they give you a discount, usually $30, if you buy the mobo and cpu together. They also have the best prices on hard drives and it's fun to see what they have...
