My experience with Sound Connection started off great and quickly deteriorated. I had performed a self-install of a stereo but had two things I wanted fixed: 1) I had trouble getting the backup camera to work - despite verifying that my wiring was correct, I could never get a picture and 2) I wanted to move the USB cable from the glove box where I had routed it to the center console.
When I first contracted the work I was to have done, the man at the counter seemed knowledgeable, friendly, and professional, with the exception of ragging on the technicians at Crutchfield, which in hindsight might have been a red flag. I paid for the services in full in advance, $279, about two weeks before my scheduled install date. Before the day of the install, I'm told it will probably take a couple hours, drop it off at 9am, and expect it done sometime the same day. The store hours were 9 to 6. I heard nothing until 5:30, when I got a call telling me that they had not even looked at my car yet because they deemed someone else's work more important. They said they'd be willing to stay open a little later to finish the install, but quickly backtracked that and said I could either schedule to leave my car with them yet another day in the future or could pick it up in the morning. I opted for the latter because I already had to take one day off work due to having no vehicle available.
When I picked up the car, the backup camera worked, and the USB was routed where I asked. GREAT! The work I asked for was done... except that my steering wheel controls no longer functioned. At all. They worked when I dropped off the car. I went back in to ask the tech if there was some oversight or a problem with the install. His response to me was this:
"Is the backup camera working? Is the USB where you wanted it? Then we did what you paid us to do. We did not guarantee everything would work when you got it back." I was calm. I didn't yell at him. I said it was working when I dropped it off, why would installing the backup camera or moving a USB cable affect the steering wheel controls? He then informed me that they "had to" rewire the entire thing because I "had done it wrong," and that if I wanted them to fix the steering wheel controls they would charge me by the hour to do so.
I left. When I got home, I opened up the dash. I was immediately greeted by the fact that their technician did not reconnect my hazard lights, which is dangerous as well as negligent. I removed the head unit. The tech had wrapped all of the cables, which if the install were done properly would have been great, but it wasn't done properly. I undid all the tape to find that the two cables which the manual for the radio control unit VERY CLEARLY STATES must be connected for steering wheel controls in my Mazda CX-5 to work were left unconnected, despite being bundled in with all the other wires. I also saw that where I had done a very clean job of wiring with heat shrink tubing to cover the connections, their tech had basically just thrown electrical tape on everything.
The technician also left behind some kind of very large socket wrench socket in my glove box, and I cannot fathom what it was used for.
I would honestly ask for the service portion of my install that was related to "installing the head unit" back if I thought there was any chance they would actually give it to me. I have no such optimism based upon my experience thus far. I'm quite tempted to file a credit card charge back since I had to do the work myself in the end, but honestly I'd rather just talk to the owner about what a horrible unprofessional experience I received for my money.
Technically I got what I contracted for - the backup camera works, and the USB cable is where it needs to be. I also got a large headache and extra work I should not have had to do. I would avoid this business at all costs, which is unfortunately difficult in St. Cloud unless you want Best Buy to do your...
Read moreShoppng for an upgrade to my car and truck audio system. Read the reviews and decided on this place. Called earlier in the day to ask if they could install a new system in my car, they could, all was good. I showed up and pulled up to the bay door. No one came out or raised the door so I went in. The guy who later identified himself as the sales manager was on a lengthy phone call with what sounded like a customer (no problem I get it) so I looked around the store for the audio system that I was going to buy. In the mean time another employee walked in the door passes by me and says to the sales manager something about clueless people parking in front of the door (I'm the only customer, so safe bet he's talking about me!). Meanwhile the sales manager is still on the phone, I go out to investigate. The guy who called me clueless is in the other bay with the door open. I called him out on the comment, said I was the clueless guy, sorry, and I'll move the car. So I did. He wasn't in ANY joking mood, seemed pretty unhappy. He wouldn't say anything back and turned away. Ok someone's day was ruined by my errant parking (sorry!!). No one was waiting to get in or out. I went back in the store after moving my car. Sales manager is still on the phone. Still ok, business is good (might need more help). I decided to not wait any longer and run an errand and come back. So I get in my car and Google for another audio place. The sales manager comes out to my car, he seemed stressed, kinda lectured me on how busy he was and had a bunch of business dump on him just now. I'm still ok, I understand things get busy (I told him that). It's not a good time, ok. I just said I didn't think I wanted the other guy who called me clueless to work on my car. Anyway, it went down hill from there. Not a good day for him. I just left. I called back to speak to the owner... Someone else answered the phone, I asked to speak to the owner (to make an appointment), the guy said he doesn't work there he works from home, I asked for his number the employee declined to give it to me. I asked if he could have him call me, he said no. I asked him to clarify that and he said that "maybe" he could but "wouldn't guarantee it". Ok, well do your best I guess. So far no call back. Strangest encounter -ever- with a retailer. I just wanted a new system, geesh. Looks like I'll keep looking. Anyway, sound connection SORRY ruining your day, wasn't my...
Read moreOverall, I am pleased with the product and results! During Black Friday sales, we committed to purchasing a remote start system for one of the vehicles. The particular remote start system was an excellent price with the features we desired! There was, understandably, a longer delay for installation based on the quantity of holiday items sold, but we were fine with the delay because it was a Christmas gift.
There were some confusing messages about installation in that we were told all vehicles are requested to be dropped off at 9:00 but at the same time told the âactualâ appointment was at 1:30 pm so, as long as the store was notified that we were definitely doing the installation, the vehicle could be brought later. I was told to check, though, because sometimes there are cancellations that affect the timing and order of service.
When I called on the day of installation, I was told all vehicles had to be there at 9:00 and left for the day. I asked about the actual time of installation and it was confirmed that the time slot was 1:30. I asked, based on that, if I could come closer to 1:30 and was told that all vehicles are supposed to be at the site by 9:00. I was able to get there by about 10:00. I was again told that the actual service was still scheduled at 1:30. So, I left the vehicle and did some other errands near the store.
I was told the process, unless there were difficulties, would be two to two and a half hours. So, I confirmed that the vehicle should be ready between 3:30 and 4:00. I came back to the store about 1:30 and the vehicle had not been taken in yetâbut I understood there could be delays on other vehicles. I asked and the 3:30 tp 4:00 time period was confirmed again, so I went away from the store.
I returned about 3:45 to learn that it would take some additional time. I asked what that meant but was offered no specific time. I said, âso, you mean an hour? An hour and a half?â The answer was âyes.â So I did some other errands. I returned at 5:30 and saw that the vehicle was still in the service bay, but was not given any other information. I knew the store was scheduled to close at 6:00âso it couldnât be too long! Shortly after 5:45, I was told the vehicle was ready!
The system is excellent and the overall price was very reasonable! It was a little frustrating to have the time challenges, but we are very pleased, in the end, with the work and...
