This gym is for people who want to say they go to the gym. I typically like to review gyms based on several factors and here's how this one did:
Equipment: There are a lot of machines and options for you to choose. The majority of the crowd here will go straight for the dumbbells/machines so not advised to even attempt anything during the afternoon.
Gym "goers": Mix between young teens/adults and senior folk wanting to use the space for 1-2 actual sets and then spend the majority of their time socializing (i.e. crowds of 3-4 hogging one machine for long periods of time while talking incessantly). Very few actual lifters or gym-conscious people go here. Don't attempt to try to do anything within business hours of 5-10PM - you will be fighting tooth and nail for any machine, squat rack, or dumbbell bench unless you come equipped with a crew of 2-3 people to help you hold down a machine.
Cleanliness: Actual gym floor is relatively clean, the space is still new so everything looks nice and the lighting adds to the overall aesthetic. The bathrooms need a lot of work. Showers are overly humid with no way to let excess moisture out and their is a lot of unpleasant smells that aren't from day to day use but an accumulation of things not being cleaned over time.
Staff: Amazing! Everyone is nice and relatively laid back and willing to help you whenever you need something. There are some good classes to take that seem relatively busy with instructors that care.
Overall Business: Definitely appealing to a burn and churn model where they try to get as many people to sign up for a contract so they can milk them over and over again.
Final thoughts - would not continue going to this gym, luckily my contract finished and I was able to start working out at another gym that appeals to me. Not a bad gym, just not right for people wanting to plug in earphones...
Read moreBeen a member of Freedom Fitness off and on since they moved into my neighborhood, Sunrise Mall. It is a great gym. Clean, friendly, with lots of cool equipment and extensive free weight area.
My problem, though, is that I am not consistent and went through periods of simply paying the FF light bill and not showing up to work out. Freedom Fitness (and the related UBF) changed that. During one of my renewals. I was contacted by Ally Lozano to discuss my fitness goals. She talked me into trying a couple of free sessions with a personal trainer. She said that this would help push me, improve consistency, and keep the workouts interesting. She was right ... I signed up.
Worked with many trainers at Freedom with varied results. Actually, hadn't been able to keep a trainer for more than 6 months. Didn't fired any, they just choose to do other things like go to school, join the military, start their own business, etc. (Maybe I'm a difficult client and made them change careers.)
In steps Kate McAndrews. She picked up my contract in March 2023 and have been using her since. Kate is a knowledgeable, aggressive, no nonsense trainer. When doing weight training, she pushes the limits, often to muscle failure. Also, she makes me do exercises that I would normally avoid, core, full body and cardio. To top that off, she is a nutritionist and has helped me start a healthier diet. I've gotten far stronger, balance has improved, and lost 32lbs. On the right path.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a great gym, I recommend Freedom Fitness. If you want to see real results, get a personal trainer. If you are not afraid of a little pain to get those results, see if Kate...
Read moreI've been a member for years and the staff has always treated me with respect until today. Me and my friend were working out in the group exercise room (Our workouts call for multiple benches. So we use the steppers so other members can continue to use the benches). We know not to be in there during a class. So we go out of our way to complete our workouts outside of class hours. An instructor walks in and blasts the music to where I can't even hear my friend who is standing next to me. If this were a class I get it, loud music and Zumba go hand in hand but this wasn't. I asked her if she could turn it down a little bit. To which she replied "I guess." A few minutes later she walks by us and yells, "I'm going to turn it back on once I start practicing." I found it rude that she wouldn't have the courtesy to take us into account. I didn't ask her to turn it off. I just wanted to be able to hear my friend. Apparently that was too much to ask for. I walked to to the front office and asked if she could turn it down a bit. A young girl with blonde hair said they would talk to her... nothing came of it. After our workout I asked for a manger. The young man at the front desk said Leslie wasn't there and wouldn't be back to Monday. He was reluctant to give me the manager's name and the Zumba instructor's name. I still don't know her name. I don't think it is too much to ask for to be respected and not belittled by staff. I thought Zumba was about empowering women not bullying them. I'm hoping this is one time incident as Freedom Fitness staff, at the several locations I've been too, have always...
