We haven't been here in a long time. We were really impressed with all the development and improvements the city has done. It was in the 70s but very windy. The beach area was very clean and well maintained. The sand is a little rough at the edge of the water and had broken sea shells but once you get in about 2 feet in you can enjoy the smooth sand in the water. It's nice to see all the activities people were engaged in like bicycling, jogging, scootering, flying kites etc. Very family friendly. There are wash off stations just before you get back on the steps and there are wash off stations outside the restrooms to clean off the sand. The restrooms were relatively clean. The floors were wet and sandy due to people changing in here after washing off or swimming. However, it was acceptable to which it was well stocked with paper towels, toilet tissue and hand soap. We constantly saw city employees emptying out trash receptacles and picking up debris on the beach and around the park. There is also a very cool looking playground for the kids. We will...
Read moreDrove here from San Antonio on a Sunday morning for an afternoon at the beach. It looked recently restored, and the sand appeared to have been combed within a few days. By the Corpus Christi website, I thought there would be facilities (bathroom/showers), but they looked closed for more than the day (chains and boarded up) and smelled like urine as we walked by. There was no lifeguard on duty. Under the Jetti, there appeared to be a homeless person's belongings. There were bits of trash, including rare broken glass on the shore, not enough to where I wouldn't let the kids go barefoot in the ocean, but enough to make me tell them to put on their flip flops when they were exploring the shore. Some positives were the free parking by a nice playground across the street, and easy access to a Whataburger for the drive home. The sand was a bit rough on land, but was very soft in the water which was shallow for quite a distance. This made it great for my small kids who splashed and swam...
Read moreI just wanted to send you my thoughts about the closure and blockade of the Seawall, I was very surprised to learn about this on the news this morning. Driving down there the area is desolate and looks abandoned. I cannot believe there was not a interim plan which would have been implemented before the beginning of the busy season. Now we have a confusing situation for the residents and visitors. Additionally seven handicapped reserved parking spots are no longer available for use. Those were approved for and paid for by voters and tax payers and now they're in accessible. Plus the bus does not stop at the beach any longer. I saw the bus this morning route number 76 – it made a left onto the new thorough-fare and continued north with no bus stop in sight.
It is like my worst nightmare has come true. It will be warm soon and folks will be wanting to go to that little beach. Too bad something had not been planned for to allow for easy access.
Kevin Where's the Beach ? ?...
