Coming hot off of The Texas Bucket List, the Mrs. and I were excited to try some soul food done right. I was relieved that they relocated to their own restaurant, because the previous one was hidden inside another building. Unfortunately, there are only specific dishes for specific days. We arrived on a Tuesday, so we tried the beef tips, fried chicken, and a porkchop. The accompanied sides were mac and cheese, yams, cabbage, and fried green tomatoes. The fried chicken was fresh and crispy, though it was a bit under seasoned. Not bad, but no better than if you made a batch at home with your mom. The beef tips were tasty, although the portion was on the smaller side and the beef could have been a bit more tender personally. The side porkchop was fine, though needed more salt. The sides were quite disappointing as well. The mac was oddly very sweet. They also lacked that cheesiness you would expect from such a beloved dish. The yams were sweet as well. That is to be more expected, but they were sweeter than what we're used to and were sitting in a syrup base. Honestly, I would suggest putting those yams inside of a pie crust instead and turn it into a dessert. The cornbread was sweet as well, but I welcomed it. The fried green tomatoes were fine, though again, needed a bit more seasoning. Overall service was great, and the atmosphere was nice. In the end, I would take this joint with a grain of salt. Though, there seems to not be much competition in the city...

Portis Kountry Kitchen: A Hidden Gem You Must Visit!

If you're looking for a place that embodies warmth, charm, and exceptional service, look no further than Portis Kountry Kitchen. From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted by the friendliest staff. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between quaint and elegant, giving you that cozy, welcoming vibe while still feeling like you're in for something special.

Cleanliness is clearly a top priority here, which only adds to the overall experience. And let's talk about parking—it's surprisingly easy, a rare find for such a popular spot!

Now, onto the food. I had the fried pork chops, and let me tell you, they were sheer perfection! Golden brown and crispy on the outside, yet so juicy on the inside—I’m still dreaming about them. The sweet potatoes were hands down the best I've ever tasted, and the macaroni? Oh, it was creamy, rich, and absolutely indulgent. The only downside was that I couldn't eat another bite, though I definitely wanted more.

I’m not sure if I can brag enough about the service—it's truly that amazing. The team at Portos Kountry Kitchen goes above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is unforgettable....

We had a fantastic brunch meal on Saturday,. I think l just died & went to heaven! My meal of peach waffles & fried chicken wings was amazing. I had the grits & fried green tomatoes as my sides. The sauce that comes with the fried tomatoes was soooo good, l dipped my chicken in it& loved every bite! My hubby had the fried chicken plate with cheesy grits& cabbage, He thoroughly enjoyed it & even had to ask for an extra serving of cabbage. He said the cornbread was also great. I can’t attest to that since he didn’t offer me any. Ha Needles to say, we had no leftovers because it was so darn good we couldn’t stop eating. The restaurant decor was so cozy & clean. The servers were so friendly & attentive. They had a saxophonist playing live music. It was explained to us that the menu changes daily & all the food is prepared from scratch so you have to check their facebook to see what is being served each day & the weekly & weekend menu are different. Our waitress says some people call every day to see what’s being prepared & they don’t mind that. We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu when get lucky enough to travel back to Corpus. Thanks Portis Kountry Kitchen for a...

My wife and I visited Portis country kitchen on Valentine’s Day for lunch. I guess the best compliment I can give them is that if I didn’t know no better I would’ve thought my mom was in the kitchen cooking but I know that’s not possible since my mom passed away in 2009. I haven’t enjoyed a Soulfood meal like that since then I’m a pretty good cook myself but it’s nothing like having somebody cook for you. Sit down and being able to enjoy a meal I wish I could visit their house for Thanksgiving boy I bet you it’s sooooooooo good. The collard greens were absolutely amazing. Season to perfection the yams were absolutely delicious and the fried chicken hey man say man it is what it is. I also noticed some of the other dishes coming out like the smothered pork chops the baked chicken the fried okra. My wife had was Amazing. I highly recommend for this country kitchen support black owned. He’s a military veteran as a very clean restaurant great staff great customer service everyone’s friendly and tentative so I highly recommend if you’re in the Corpus Christi area and you’re looking for a great place to eat stop in and visit Portis country kitchen. I promise you won’t be disappointed
