I've been in the industry as a collector and a dealer since the mid 1980s. I sell cards at several locations in Michigan and am a hardcore set collector as well as other vintage cards and anything Pittsburgh related. Over the years I've seen card shops come and go across the country. Many of them failed because they lost touch with the fact that this is a hobby and that in the modern days of the internet, the customer service and interaction that is part of the shop experience is something that if done right, Beckett cannot put a price on it. Living in Michigan it takes me roughly 5 hours to get to the Castle. The excitement I get coming to the store makes me feel like a kid again. Jeff and his family have a top tier business. Incredible inventory. Great pricing and the customer experience that makes me wish I lived closer! My most recent purchase was an 1985 Topps Football set. It was the last one from 1981-1992 that I needed to complete my run. The price was more than fair and upon opening it, I was extremely pleased with the quality. As anyone knows who remembers this set, the black borders are often full of nicks and dings. This set was a solid NRMT-MT across the run. I am having fun paging it up! Thank you Jeff for your friendship and for the great experience and fun that your shop ads to my trips to Pittsburgh! ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went in for the topps buyback, for which I had 5 cards totaling $100. I got a box worth $90, but later when I got home. I looked the box up online, and realized the itās actually only $80 at most places. On top of that I only got the $90 box and not the other $10 in credit I was owed. I felt bad asking about it or not buying anything because I came in very close to closing time, but in retrospect I should have.
From that story along with my prior experiences, I have realized all in all, the store has (at time I have been there) had a medium to low tier selection of boxes, which I am now realizing may be up marked a little. Although they do have but a pretty good selection of single cards. I understand that of course I get have to make money somehow, especially with inflation right now, but I feel that it isnāt necessary to mark it up that much. Personally I think the chances of me returning to the store are low. For anyone who made it down here, Iām not saying to never go here. If you live near it and cannot get to another cards shop, itās a great place to pick up some packs and singles, but if you have the opportunity to go to other places, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI got the Bowman jumbo with three autographs per box. I bought it on Tuesday on December 7, 2021 on the phone from Jeff and on December 9, 2021 I got it in the mail.
Storing away the jumbo box. Out of all the boxes of baseball that I purchased the 2017 Bowman Jumbo is my most prized boxed that I ever purchased! That will be in my personal collection and stored away along with my AcuƱa 1st Bowman Chrome prospect oncard autograph!
Anyway, that is my Christmas gift and early birthday gift for myself (my birthday is on Dec 28th). Here is a photo of the Bowman jumbo and yes I had to post the AcuƱa Jr 1st prospect oncard autograph with it.
Thank you Jeff for the wonderful service! Looking forward to buying again from you and to visit your shop in person as well as to...
