We've been here twice. The first time (about 6 months ago), the food was good and we decided to try them again today. We ordered a Red Curry Noodle (spice level 4) and a Pineapple Fried Rice (spice level 2).
When we got home with our food, the spice level on the fried rice was WAAAYYY hotter than a 2. And the noodles weren't nearly a 4. My thought was they just mixed up the spice on the dishes, which is reasonable, but I couldn't possibly eat the level 4 rice dish so we called the restaurant to see if they could simply replace it.
When I explained the issue, the woman put me on hold to "talk to the kitchen". When she got back on the line she proceeded to tell me I was wrong and the kitchen only used a 2 on the rice. I further explained to her that my rice was FAR hotter than my husband's noodle dish and he ordered a 4. She wanted to put me on hold AGAIN to check with the kitchen. I proceeded to tell her that it didn't matter to me what the kitchen says, the dish is way too hot and I'd like to know if she can make me a new one. I told her I'd be happy to bring the other one back and she replied, "Oh no, we make you new one. Can you come in 15 minutes?" I told her that would be fine.
My husband got to the restaurant and when trying to pick up the new dish, the woman argued with him again about the spice level. Then she went on saying he needed to return the other one first. He explained to her that we were told we didn't need to bring the old one and that we just wanted a new dish because we couldn't eat the other one. She got angry and loud with him, the customer, right in the restaurant. My husband then got angry with her, expressed his displeasure, and ultimately she just gave him the rice.
While the food flavor is good when the spice level is correct, we will never be back. Regardless of anything else, you should never argue and get loud with customers only trying to enjoy your food. Does she think we're running some scam where we go around town trying to get a $12 fried rice for free??? Just ridiculous. So the $12 cost of the rice dish is only the beginning of the revenue they will be losing. They will be losing hundreds of dollars in future orders we may have purchased as we will not ever go back. We'll take our future business to Avor Thai, which is also very close to us.
Sorry Real Thai, you're a real example of how NOT to treat...
Read moreThis place used to be great. I have gone here for over 5 years. But recently, it has absolutely crashed.
It started with me getting some Pumpkin Curry for takeout, as I have done many times before. When I got home and started eating, I immediately realized that the pumpkin tasted AWFUL. I took it out and realized it was moldy. Not like "Oh a little spot of mold on one piece", it was fuzzy. I threw it out and called the place. After explaining it to 3 separate people over the phone, they said they would call me back. When they called me back, they told me that this was impossible and I must've been seeing pieces of tofu, but they would give me a free one next time anyway.
I figured it's whatever, just one mistake in 5+ years, no problem. I ordered the same takeout again some time later and when I went to pick it up, the young guy at the front (who has the energy of someone who was kidnapped and forced into working) had no idea what I was talking about when I told him it should be free this time. He left and came back and said "They're busy".
I was hungry so I just paid and left. The food was okay but didn't taste as good as it usually did.
Then, most recently, I went with a group of friends. There were only two other tables sat. Our waiter was an even younger kid who was also the host, cashier, busser, and food runner. It took ages to get our order in but we got some crab rangoons as an appetizer. THEY WERE AWFUL. Not sure if they had gone bad, or maybe they had changed something about their recipe, but they were just gross. Nobody at our table dared to finish them.
Since we were sat next to the door to the kitchen, we would peer in from time to time. It was absolutely disgusting. Black sludge in the corners of everything, thick layers of dust, gross brown streaks on all the equipment, and grease spots all over the ceiling. Absolutely hideous.
After 45 minutes, we got our entrees. The food tasted good at least, but we will not be back unless it comes under new ownership....
Read moreThe kitchen delivers an average and casual dining experience with thoughtful flavors, though not without a few missteps.
The dumplings arrive well-balanced. A soft exterior shell with toppings of crispy onion lends a welcome contrast, though it clings to the teeth in a way that distracts from an otherwise strong start.
The pumpkin curry proves to be the most compelling dish of the evening. Creamy and well-rounded, it carries just enough spice. We stated a “2” on a ten-point spice scale. It was intriguing without overwhelming. I personaly LOVE spice, but my girlfriend does not. So, we kept it light. The pumpkin itself is tender and velvety, while the chicken is handled with equal care, arriving moist and flavorful.
The Spaghetti Kai Krob leans heavily toward sweetness, overshadowing the subtler layers one might hope to find. The chicken component is commendably crisp and well-cooked, but the dish’s limited spice, though I requested a "3" it was much milder than the curry—leaves it somewhat flat, particularly when set against the richness of its sauce. The dish was good, but I would add a higher spice level next time because the paletee quickly become ssaturated by sweet.
Taken as a whole, the meal demonstrates competence and occasional excellence, especially in the curry, yet falls just short of distinction. The restaurant is worth visiting for its strengths, but a finer calibration of sweetness and spice would elevate the experience from good to memorable. Our server, however was great. Personalble, and friendly. She reccommended the spaghetti Kai Krob to me and I found it fascinating. I often don't hear "Thai" and factor spaghetti on the menu. I...
