Hate to leave this review as Jason was truly great to deal with. But after going to another custom shop, my boyfriend was pretty unhappy with our FrameStore order and wanted me to post my experience.
This was the first time I had something custom framed so I had no frame of reference for how much it would cost. I found FrameStore on Google, as they advertise their “50% First Custom Order” coupon. I needed 2 very large prints framed, and figured the coupon would help a lot. Jason was super pleasant, very helpful and he clearly cares about what he does. Once we determined what I wanted, I was quoted at $1,000 total for one poster… Including the 50% discount…. Meaning the job would have cost $2,000 without a coupon. Agghhh.
I told Jason I could only afford to frame one of the prints. I shouldn’t even have authorized the one, but I’m the type of person that hates to say no and Jason had spent almost an hour with me. That’s on me.
The frame came back quickly and looks wonderful, no complaints there (except that the other frame store I went to later said it’s too heavy and they should have used lighter materials due to the size). But I was absolutely not going to be able to afford $2,000 to frame the second one at FrameStore, now that my 50% off coupon had been used.
I went to another custom framer nearby and brought the print framed by FrameStore. They chose the materials to get it as close as possible to the first order. My quote was only $500. I got it back recently and they’re hanging next to each other in my apartment now — their job is almost identical to the FrameStore job (while being a lot less heavy, which makes me less nervous about hanging it on the wall). I essentially paid $1,000 for one print when that could have taken care of both. The poster looks beautiful on my wall but I cringe every time I remember I overpaid $500 for it.
Jason was great, but I think the pricing at this store really needs to be called out. My experience leads me to believe the 50% off coupon is an excuse to seriously and drastically inflate their costs. Maybe this store is more suited for artisans and people who can afford a premium job, but if you’re just trying to get stuff on the wall, I highly encourage you to get another quote or...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of The Frame Store in Culver City and had several pieces of artwork framed. I recently took a professional family portrait to be framed and the Design Associate, Maria assisted me. When the frame was completed and I went to pick up my portrait, she was on vacation so another associate assisted me. When I looked at the frame, I saw little indentions and I said, “the frame is damaged”. He got the sample and there were indentions on the sample which I told him I thought were from handling because the sample frames are not in perfect condition. He showed me more frames and I chose one. He told me he would leave a note for Maria.
When I went in and spoke with Maria, she told me that the other associate should not have shown me that frame because it was back ordered. We had a conversation about how I disliked the frame because it looked damaged and how I thought the indentions on the sample were frame handling and note the design. I chose another frame which was very plain and less expensive. She told me that I would have to pay for the frame I didn’t want plus another $50 which I agreed. Once she entered everything into the computer, the price was more and I was not willing to pay so I told her to give me my family portrait back (they already have a $200 deposit). She told me that she would talk to the owner and get back to me.
I went to the store today and Maria was not there. The other associate was there and told me he had to speak to Maria before he returned my family portrait. He called her on the phone and she told him not to return my family portrait to me because they want me to pay for the frame that looks damaged. I took him that I want to speak to the owner. He would not give me his contact information.
I’m appalled at the treatment that I am receiving as a loyal customer and the threats of Maria to keep my...
Read moreMaria and Dickson were so incredibly helpful and patient with me during my experience at their shop. I came in to get a 44”x44” print of a painting framed that I had bought online. Maria reached out to me directly to help set up an initial consultation (and was very patient in my sometimes late text messages!!) and then Dickson helped me at the shop from then on. Dickson was very genuine and knowledgeable about the process and gave me a very honest assessment about the best way to go forward with my project. I was gung-ho and ready to pay for it to be framed at any cost!!! But I was naive, and didn’t realize that the print I had bought wasn’t the best quality. Dickson very kindly suggested that we stretch the print OVER a wood frame to make it look uniform and stabilize it, rather than spend hundreds of dollars on a custom frame for a piece that wasn’t even as expensive as the frame would be! Frankly, his honesty and guidance was so appreciated, it really made me feel like he wanted the best for me and my project, and wasn’t simply looking to upsell me on an expensive frame. In the future, when I have a little bit more money to spend on art (and can actually buy an original, high quality print!) I will be coming straight to the Frame Store for a custom frame! Truly, my experience was a beautiful, personal, and familial one that you can only get from a small business in the best way: real people, artists!!, doing something they are passionate about. 10 stars if I could!
