I will not be continuing treatment at this practice. After two years and 33 appointments for facial scar revision treatments including 16 Pulse Dye Lasers, 4 Fraxel sessions, 3 rounds of microneedling, and countless cortisone injections, I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars and I thought I had developed a caring and personal relationship with the Dr Stetler and several nurses. Most recently, during a cortisone injection visit, I asked Dr. Stetler for her perspective on the results of my Fraxel treatments (recommended by her and performed by another Dr) and whether another series (valued at $4,000) was advisable. To my surprise, I was charged a $75 consultation fee — in addition to the $195 cortisone injection — simply for asking about my progress and next steps. After all my prior visits and investment, it felt disheartening to be charged extra just to hear whether additional treatments were recommended (and how I might continue to spend money at this practice). I asked if the consultation fee could be waived, given my continued commitment to care for scar revisions through their practice. (I can understand being charged if I were seeking treatment for a new issue, but every appointment has been for scar revisions.) Instead, I was informed by the office manager that receiving a $75 refund for the “consultation” would mean I could no longer see any provider at this office. Given this treatment, I agreed to part ways and shortly thereafter received a formal letter signed by all three doctors confirming they would no longer treat me. I was never a difficult patient, never made excessive demands and was not asking for a refund for any treatments I had received. I truly believed we had a respectful and collaborative rapport and I would regularly tell the staff how much I appreciated them. Our appointments often included warm, personal conversations and that made the abrupt dismissal even harder to understand.
I genuinely did not expect that seeking an opinion on the results of $4,000 for a series of Fraxels performed in their office would come with an additional fee. Do you see progress with my before and after photos from Fraxel?? These are unretouched photos I received from their office and for what I was charged $75 to discuss.
Edited Response to Office Comments Regarding Unexpected Charge:
I wanted to share some context regarding the unexpected $75 charge, which I was never informed about in advance. I’m hoping this was simply a misunderstanding, as it doesn’t align with the communication I received or the time spent during my appointment. Here are the key points that refute your point of view:
Initial Discussion with Dr. Stetler: Prior to completing my Fraxel treatments, I asked Dr. Stetler if she could also review my results, given her involvement in managing my scar revisions and familiarity with my progress. She kindly agreed and expressed that she’d be happy to provide her opinion. At no point was an additional fee mentioned.
Photo Review with Treating Physician: During my pre/post Fraxel consultation with the treating physician, I was informed that additional photos were stored in a separate system and would be sent later. Despite following up twice, I never received those images.
Cortisone Injection Appointment: On the day of my cortisone injection with Dr. Stetler, I mentioned to her nurse beforehand that I hoped to briefly review my photos during the same visit. Again, there was no indication that this would incur an extra charge.
Time Spent Reviewing Photos: The discussion with Dr. Stetler regarding the four photos was brief and absolutely did not extend my appointment by 20 minutes.
Given that I’ve invested over $15,000 in treatments at your practice, I was surprised to see this charge for what felt like a routine and relevant follow-up. I truly value the care I’ve received and hope this was simply a misunderstanding. I’d appreciate your consideration in reviewing...
Read moreDamaris Iriondo is amazing!! I got a splinter in the back of my leg December2023 sitting on a wooden bench. It was deep and NO doctor or dermatologist could get the wood out without “cookie scooping” the back of my thigh bc it was so deep in my skin. The options offered would leave me w a hole, stitches and bad scar so I elected to keep the splinter (ouch but I learned to live with it)... I went in yesterday as a Hail Mary and made an appointment with Damaris on 11/25/24 bc the wood fragment was starting to turn my skin black + swelling up. In less than 5 minutes Damaris went over my options and after a quick numbing shot she was able to get the splinter out without putting a huge hole in my leg!! She got out TWO big pieces of wood. It felt like the Bible where the lion gets the thorn removed from paw I was that relieved. Damaris thinks outside the box and she’s literally an ANGEL and was able to do what many other doctors and medical staff have not been able to do for almost a year. She figured out the least invasive way to get the splinter out and I couldn’t be more grateful. It’s been less than 24 hours and it already feels and looks SO much better and I can with no pain again- I didn’t even need stitches bc she was so careful and made the tiniest incision possible to remove the splinters. 10/10 Over the summer I was in a jetskiing accident and was starting to develop scar tissue where I took the impact- Damaris put a small steroid shot in the keloid scar that was beginning to form and I kid you not there’s NO visible scar at all and no raised keloid like I was starting to form. 10/10 Damaris also helped my acne- I was struggling with hormonal acne along my jawline but didn’t want to take an oral medication. Damaris suggested prescribing me the cream form of Winlevi and that’s been such a game changer for me- my acne is under control!! 10/10 Pretty much what I’m trying to say: Damaris Iriondo listens to her patients and she truly cares about your outcome- I couldn’t be happier under her care and expertise and I trust her 100% for any and all...
Read moreI have been a patient of Dr. Stetler’s for almost 10 years, and I will not be returning. After 10 years of never missing an appointment, I had made the mistake of looking at a past email for my upcoming appointment and got the time incorrect. That’s on me. They do not send a text message the day before, like many other offices, making it more likely with any appointment changes to make a mistake. They do send it a week prior, but like I said, with any appointment change can be easily mixed up with other prior messages. I had changed my appointment day but had mistakenly thought it was at the same time- an honest mistake. My issue is not paying some sort of penalty but the refusal to even negotiate the fee down at all. The office staff would not waive the $150 consult fee despite me being a long time patient, and one who had already had a consultation in prior years. There are plenty of excellent dermatologists who do not charge their existing patients $150 to discuss treatments. They also wanted me to come into the office to get prescribed tretinoin and would not do it over the phone, hence, why I decided to make this appointment in the first place. It is unfortunate they were not able to meet me half way and reduce the fee due to my long standing with the clinic. I will be finding another dermatologist with more patient friendly staff and policies. Also one who values long standing patient’s and who would be willing to negotiate the fee to some degree in the case of an honest first time mistake. I’d be curious to hear about anyone else’s experience and if they had to deal with any mistakes the office staff or...
