Edit: So it's been six months but I was just informed by my friends that when the groundskeeper finally did show up he made them sweep and mop the entire property while he sat and watched. We had not made a mess and had already cleaned. I retract my previous recommendation and I'm furious that my guests were treated this way after we were flat out ignored all evening.

We had our wedding at Winfrey Point. It is a beautiful old building and has a gorgeous view of the lake and the skyline, a wonderful screened in porch, patio, fireplace, stage, kitchen, back rooms for getting ready, etc. It's an absolutely fantastic deal for the money, will work for almost any size event, and allows you to use any vendors you want. I would highly recommend this venue. You do need to book well in advance (1 year from the month of your event on the first of the month) as they fill up quickly. They also have tables and chairs but can't guarantee how many will be there so I recommend providing your own just in case. The only issue we had was that the caretaker, Reginald, was less than helpful. He left as soon as the wedding started which would have been fine, except that we got locked out of the room where everyone had stored their purses and he didn't answer his phone or return our calls for the entire rest of the night. Several guests were unable to leave until we literally took the door off of it's hinges and put it back using a shoe as a hammer. It ended up making for a great story, but he should have checked his phone. Despite that hiccup, in my opinion this is the best deal on a venue you can get in DFW and I would definitely...

My husband and I recently got married at Winfrey Point. It's an affordable, DIY venue so everything is on you.....decorating, catering, set-up, clean-up, etc. We really enjoyed the flexibility of choosing our own vendors. We were able to save money in other areas considering we had more options. I know some complain about the staff (building supervisor) that's present at event...however we didn't have any problems with him. He was very responsive, respectful and available throughout the night. We didn't feel rushed cleaning building. I think you have to just plan your event according for cleanup because building has to be cleared by 12 (midnight). The one thing that made it challenging for us was scheduling to see building. I think the city had some changes in staff which offered limited availability to see venue. However when I called, they were very helpful. Overall we enjoyed our experience and...

Negative stars We had a party scheduled there last night. Nobody showed up to open the doors. When we finally got a hold of someone, and hour and half later, they said they couldn't get a hold of the person with a key and they would not be coming. We had unloaded about 5 cars of decorating items waiting for them on the porch, hundreds of dollars worth of candy, cookies, food, and ice just getting ruined in the heat. We had caterers waiting outside, and bakers with cupcake deliveries as well. This was a huge event for us that we had been planning for 3+ months. Maybe someone should reconsider the people they make responsible for the keys. We were so very disappointed. We had to pack up all that stuff and go somewhere else. This is extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, and just heart breaking that we were...

Awww!! This is my favorite place of all times. My secret spot, but not secret anymore. I go there to relax and watch the sunset. I also take my loved ones here whenever they feel not ok. I have seen many romantic occasions, photo sessions, and weddings at this spot. It has a different spirit. I was wondering how to make reservation here. I just found the phon number through this location. It is really so relaxing!! 🤍🤍🤍 Please, continue to take care of this spot. 🙏 The pictures were taken from different seasons as you can notice!!

Do not recommend, ceiling filled with mold guest that flew in to town had to leave coughing, had to pay a linen company $600 to come drape the entire front due to the white stage area having holes across the entire front zoom in to view. Asked if the grass would be mowed because we planned on having ceremony outside - mowers started mowing during the ceremony. AC barely worked. Erma in the office is great. Guess they can take the $400 deposit they kept & apply it towards something city owned could afford to maintain it better.

Winfrey Point is a plot of land with a long history. From 1935-1942 it was the Civilian Conservation Corps camp. The US Army used it from 1942-1943. It was then turned into a German POW camp from 1943 -1945. After that SMU used it for student housing 1946 - 1947. In 1957 someone blew up one of the old barracks so the city cleared the buildings and now it's a baseball field.
