Smoky Rose is a staple of White Rock and a must-try for all lovers of BBQ! I came to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday last week! The design of Smoky Rose is favorable to Birthday parties or group gatherings (whether outside or inside). The architect deserves and interior designer deserve a reward! The outside patio with lighted trees makes for great pictures! The weather was great and got better as the evening progressed. This culminated to splendid evening spent with my girlfriend, her family and closest friends! The food was remarkable! We shared what was called a Full Board (under the 'Smoke' - House Meats section) with all the award-winning smokehouse meats. I highly recommend either this if you have a group like ours with 10 people or more or the Half Board if you have a group with 6 people or more. The Full Board is enough to feed 15 people (or 8 hungry men)! We also got the House Mac (large) and the Garlic Sautéed Green Beans (large) 😋. The pork and the brisket are two of the best meats and the BBQ compliments all the meats. My girlfriend covers all the meats in spectacular detail and gives some great feedback (see her review below)! I also ordered the Blood Orange Mule for a drink. I loved it since I like Moscow mules and if you like sweet drinks, you have to come and it! One really cool detail at the restaurant is their fly-swatters that from a distance look like a mini-tower with helicopter rotor blades. They really work! Evidenced by how the flies were quickly chased away from when our food came to when the service brought them out. The service itself could improve overall, besides the host who was very kind and hospitable! The valet was also did a great job and were very kind! They allowed us to spend extra time in the parking lot for my girlfriend to receive her gifts from her parents (Side note: Her parents gave her Amazing gifts 🎉)! I would definitely come again and bring a group to enjoy an afternoon/evening with good BBQ!
"I celebrated my birthday at Smoky Rose this past week! The food was amazing! We shared a full size board of assorted barbecue meats along with sides like Mac n cheese and green beans! We split among 7 people and there were still leftovers! My favorite item is the sliced brisket. Next time I go I will be ordering that alone because it was so good! The board also comes with tortillas and barbecue sauce that pairs well with all the meats (sausage, ribs, chicken, Turkey, pulled pork, and brisket). I will say although the food was fantastic, the service was not as great and the bar was slow. (Minus the host, he was very kind and welcoming). It wasn’t that busy either, but maybe staffing was an issue that day. I also ordered the signature smoky rose cocktail which had gin, elderflower and lemon in it. I love all of those ingredients but the drink was a bit too tart and watered down. We sat in the patio which was nice as the weather was beautiful and it made for quite an enjoyable evening. If they stayed open past 9 we definitely would have orders more! Next time I will try this place on the weekend or a day where we can make it earlier for dinner. Overall I’d rate our experience a 3.5! I’d still like to go back in the future and try other selections...
Read moreThe Hostess is the first impression of a place and the hostess didn’t acknowledge us at all, she was on the phone for at least 10 min and refused to look up. My husband who is the most patient man made a comment about it and suggested we go somewhere else. We were entertaining an out of town guest, so I wanted to keep waiting. She was on the phone forever and wouldn’t look up at anyone waiting in front of her. She then mumbled something and walked off. It was definitely the strangest lack of basic customer service skills we’ve encountered in a long time. It wasn’t that busy and the party waiting in front of us made a joke that she must’ve quit and was done with everyone. We could see inside and saw random people peeking at the hostess station and ignoring everyone. After waiting so long another young girl who I assume was a server came and didn’t make the situation any better. She made a comment that the hostess is on a call which was obvious. I was trying to explain to her that we had reservations ( after waiting so long it was 15 min past our reservations, it would’ve been 5 if they bothered to greet us ) and that I was trying to call to let them know we were waiting for valet but no one would answer the phone. She was so snarky and borderline rude as well but the gentleman who heard me trying to explain was so nice and said no problem and seated us. It wasn’t that hard to be nice and acknowledge how long we had to wait to be greeted or treated with the slightest amount of good customer service or that we were welcomed. Nothing. The service was decent, not amazing. Our appetizers and food all came out together, which made no sense. The server didn’t check on us when the food first came but brought more brisket when we commented that there was hardly brisket on the queso. On a positive note, the food runners were really nice.
My Wagyu burger of the month ( or week, can’t remember) was ok, nothing special. The brisket was dry and underwhelming. Over all it wasn’t worth almost $200 and I don’t think we will be back. We eat at great restaurants at least 4 times a week and this place is aesthetically great but that’s it.
For reference we were there at 8 pm on Saturday 2/25/23
**UPDATE: my 2 star review has been changed to 4 star due to an amazing server, still deduct 1 start because the food was just ok. I had to go back due to a friend’s get together and didn’t want to tell her that I swore I wouldn’t go back to this place . Our server ( I forgot his name but he’s a bit older and from Spain ,one of my favorite places). He treated us like celebrities and made our experience amazing!! Food was still mediocre but his service made up for it. Plus “Sebastian Valenzuela” was the musician/ entertainment that Sunday and was amazing!! I needed up booking him for my husband’s birthday party and he was a hit!!! Goes to show what amazing service can do...
Read moreSmoky Rose...good food, but lacking care and customer service. This was my husbands first time visiting this restaurant. A suggestion made by a friend, we figured we would slide through for some smoked treats on a Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, we were NOT GREETED or even acknowledged by the hostess, nor the 3 other people near the hostess stand. We stood waiting patiently literally for 5 minutes while the hostess I assume was working with a customer on the phone. Not a friendly smile or 1 minute finger, just a quick glance up of irration. Once she was finished with the call, we were meet with a "Do you have a reservation?" We responded with, "Do we need one?" She responds no and asks if we wanted to sit in or outdoors. Not a simple Hello or Thank you for waiting? She shows us to our table, hands over two menus and is done with us. Fransisco our waiter comes over with a warm greeting and begins to take our order. The outside area was not busy at all(only 4 two tops, including us, 3 of which were waiting for their checks) and our food and drinks arrived in quick order by the runner. My husband had the 2 meats with Brisket that was tender and juicy, Spare Ribs with a pull off the bone peppery kick, accompanied my sweet, sticky baked beans, that were SUPER GOOD, but over shadowed by the fact that they were barely warm, and 2 skimpy bites of Collard Greens that were well seasoned and delicious, but more liquid than actual Collards. I had the Smoked Chicken Wings with the Dry Rub, and they were nice sized, great flavor, and hot! However, the fries were not. While waiting almost 10 minutes for Fransisco to come and check on our table, thinking, "maybe the wait staff is having to work the inside tables as well"? We look over to find him along with other wait staff (6 in total) congregating in the shade engrossed in conversation while the now 6 outside tables waited patiently to be tended to. Francisco makes his way over and we inform him about the cold fries( at this point, we're almost finished with the food, so didn't bother to mention the beans, collard greens, or the cup of ranch that went from being a condiment to a cool mud bath for an unfortunate insect. He quickly and politely offered the replace the fries, however it was with another portion of You guessed it! Cold fries. Needless to say, when engaging in bbq you expect room temp smoky goodness, it comes with.the process. But, cold sides and poor service; is not...
