Buckle up everyone bc this is going to be a long review! For the impatient ones in the back, the tl;dr is Sleep Outfitters in Danville is ABSOLUTELY worth your time.
On to the full review!
My husband and I have been researching beds for a few months now, and with an impending move we figured it was time to replace our nearly 20 year old mattress (!!) with something new. I'm sure you're all familiar with the, "you should replace your mattress every 7-10 years" yadda yadda, as well as the, "you spend 1/3 of your life in bed and/or asleep." Obviously we didn't follow that advice and have had a memory foam topper on our old mattress for a few years in the hopes of prolonging its life (said topper's effectiveness is still in question but I'm going to give it a 7 out of 10 for being a good sport.)
We did a bit of online research (we're moving states) and found that Sleep Outfitters had really good reviews plus it had the types of mattresses and frames we were interested in. From the moment we stepped in the store, Tish (the manager) worked with us regarding our needs, wants, and "I'm not sure..."s, lol. Sleep Outfitters has a sleep questionnaire, so be prepared for that! Tish asked us questions we hadn't really thought about re. our sleep (pain, health issues, insomnia, hot/cold) as well as the big two that probably pings every couple's radar, "do you snore?" and "do they keep you awake by tossing and turning?" Be honest, ya'll! We ended up choosing a split king bc I don't want to feel it when he does barrel rolls in the middle of the night to get comfy, just like I'm sure he doesn't want to feel me tossing around trying to get cool and sticking my foot out of the covers.
We spent around three hours (yep, you read that right!) testing out different mattress and frame types. Tish was super patient with us while we played with all the remotes and kept wandering back and forth between two different mattresses trying to decide which was best for us. She even sent texts to other managers when we asked about a frame and she couldn't find it in the inventory - she definitely went above and beyond (and thank you SO much for doing that!) We also had a lot of laughs AND Tish gave us restaurant and other local recommendations, which was super cool bc, like I said, we're from another state and want to get to know the area.
As far as the bed, well, we had it delivered last weekend and have slept in it for one night since we're still in the process of moving and will officially be in our KY home the first full week of August (can't wait!) We did play with all the buttons on the remote (bc of course we did, lol.) My parents were visiting to help us paint and I made my dad try the bed out and I almost had to pry him out of it XD Also, kudos to the delivery guys bc they wrangled it down to our finished basement and had it set up in under 30 minutes.
Great experience at the store, great experience with the delivery guys, and so far a great experience with the bed! Thank you so much Sleep Outfitters, and especially Tish for making this a great experience for us!
EDIT after almost two years on these mattresses we can definitely say that these will CHANGE YOUR LIFE in a good way.
Ok, yeah, I get that a big ol' bed is what you're supposed to sleep on with your spouse, but let me be real here. A split king will make your life SO much better. Seriously, he flops and I don't feel it. I yank my covers and poke my foot out and he doesn't feel it. The only thing that might (ok, will) happen is some snoring and we deal with it, lol. I give my boy a poke when he whoofles, and he pats my arm when...
Read moreTish was super helpful and informative about the products we were trying. I had a pleasant experience testing the beds that were in store. 10 out of 10 would recommend to people I know.
Edit: The original review was at the time of purchase, before we even got the bed delivered to us. Tish had us scan a qr code at checkout for the review, which we felt obligated to fill out. Initial experience was nice until now.
The bed we purchased was the Sealy Albany Medium. We were told in store the beds are 60x80. Apparently mattress manufacturers have a leeway of 1 inch; meaning all the beds are actually 60x79. The depth of the mattress we bought doesn't match with what they're advertising online, so nothing is exactly advertised. Fortunately we got to use the warranty on the first defective product they sent us which was almost 2 inches smaller than a standard queen. The 2nd bed is less comfortable then even the defective one we got but the right size. The policy they have though is basically a gamble if you would even get the bed you try in store. There is no refund, only a 1-time exchange so you're stuck with what you get. It's only been a week and this has been an extremely stressful experience. We were way to optimistic and trusting at the store. 0/10 wouldn't recommend to the...
Read moreTish is number one for a reason... she knows the product and her experience shows. I never thought buying a mattress could be a stressful experience, but in this world of almost unlimited choice, choosing the correct one for your specific sleep style and body weight can be a task. I’ve made several bad sleep set choices in the past couple of decades and my sleep has suffered because of it. Tish took the time to inform me about coil count, benefits of wrapped vs unwrapped coils and the if a pillow top was right for me. All things that I would have never considered without talking to Tish. My new mattress arrives today and I can’t wait for a good nights rest! Thanks again Tish!
UPDATE: The mattress that was recommended to me for back troubles and sold as "the firmest mattress we have" is sinking in the center and has horrible body impressions. Im 225 lbs and have had the mattress less than one year. Its terrible. For a "firm" mattress, it sinks in the middle nearly 7 inches. Sealy should be ashamed. I will be getting rid of it at the first chance and going back to the cheap, but solid, air mattresses that I get...
